About Me

Hi! I'm Val.

I'm a pretty eclectic quilter/blogger.

I took my first piecing class in September of 2009 and made the above Pinwheel Quilt. I started blogging one summer day in June of 2013.
(Here's a link to my FIRST POST.

My blog is a place for me to connect with others who share my same passions. It's a place for me to document my works of heart as a quilter, along with snippets of life that go on in-between at home and as a second grade teacher. I'm a life-enthusiast and there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything  I want to get done!
(Does anyone else ever feel like that?)

Visiting my blog, you'll notice I'm a pretty eclectic sewer who dabbles in applique, English Paper Piecing, (love my hexagons) traditional and out-of-the box piecing, long-arm quilting, quilt/sewing area organizing (See my Sunday Organizing Series). And, as if that's not enough, 2014 will find me exploring wool by participating in Sue Spargo's BOM. I  have many W.I.P. but let's not talk about those! (wink! wink!) Feel welcome to check out my "pages" and/or "labels" in areas that may have sparked your interest. Hopefully you'll be inspired by what you see and you become a "follower" and I can visit your blog as well.
Hey, I've always been a great multi-tasker

A little Bit About Me:

I grew up in Arizona  but we made a big move six years ago as my husband Bill and I moved to  rural, Ontario, Oregon (about 40 minutes west of Boise, Idaho). We love it! We'll be celebrating out 25th wedding anniversary this February (2014) and are new to the empty nest chapter of life.

I've just started my 26th year of teaching and am currently
a second grade teacher.

We have  two awesome, young adult daughters and a very cool son-in-law.

And we are new grandparents to this little guy:
I love making quilts for them all!!

I was an avid scrapbooker as our daughters were growing up but knew it was time for a change when I started scrapbooking pictures of our Jack Russel Terriers playing in the sprinklers!

I made this, my very first quilt, 18 years ago. My Aunt Cela (a quilter herself) bought me my first Omnigrid ruler, Olfa Rotary cutter and sent me home with a beginner's guide to quilting and this is what I created:
Yet, it wasn't until that Fall of 2009 that I was able to sink my teeth into the hobby
and take my first quilting class.  Now, many quilt tops later,
I'm teaching myself the art of Long-Arm Quilting.
I volunteer as a quilter for Project Linus and
absolutely enjoy quilting and consider it a true "work of "heart"!

Thanks for sharing and for visiting My Quilting Studio.
With smiles!

  5. Great to know you better! Your daughters are beautiful, nice family! As regards quilting, I am as well eclectic, I cannot imagine myself reduced to one style. Like you, I enjoy trying new techniques and different styles.

  6. Hey, I have a very similar sewing buddy. Broken coat JRT who loves to play in the water too. He has that same intense look and cocked ears. I love JRTs. We have had 4 of them.
