To celebrate Easter, this week is all about BASKETS and BUNNIES!

I've never made a basket quilt...but if I did it would be something fun like this! Today's first basket link will lead you to Nanette at Freda's Hive. (I feel in love with her work!)

Look What I Found!

Meet my vintage New Home Light Running Sewing Machine:

I found this at a garage sale while out on my long weekend walk this afternoon.

It even came in it's original sewing cabinet:

 All for $25.00! Have you ever been unable to resist such a find?? I love it's old style, olive green color. It's made of metal and operates using a knee pedal and YES it runs!!!! The old style plug is in wonderful condition. Looks like from the medallion label, it was made in 1889. I only wish it could talk and tell me stories of it's journey and projects made! 

If you have a vintage piece, I'm curious what you've done with it. I think mine would look good in one of our guest rooms with a quilt draped on it. I also think I'll use it to sew a sampler size quilt top for the fun of it! (And I just added "Vintage Sewing Machines" to my Tuesday Archives list!) Be cool to see what vintage machines everyone else collects.

Triangle QAL Flimsy

 My rows are joined and I have a flimsy!!!
I thought of adding a border...but I'm not going to.
I've decided to keep my little flower garden scrappy and fun.

This top measures 43"x62"...perfect size for my Hands2Help/Happy Chemo donation quilt.

Because...the  playing has only just begun!
I'm going to sketch the quilting design during a very long in-service day I have ahead of me at work today. (shhhh....don't tell!) I am however, looking forward to breakfast and lunch with colleagues. We never get enough time to just be and enjoy eachothers company.

I'm playing with rick-rak,yo-yo's, prairie points and scraps to add to the flowers after I quilt.
 

I also chose this cozy flannel for the back:

Just realized as I'm creating this post, I haven't thought about the binding! Uh oh! Any suggestions?? I sure am having fun with this Quilt Along...off to see what everyone else is up to. Thanks for stopping by!

My Sunflower Memory Quilt

 I made this, my very first quilt, 18 years ago. My Aunt Cela (a quilter herself) bought me my first Omnigrid ruler, Olfa Rotary cutter and sent me home with a beginner's guide to quilting and this is what I created:

What's sentimental about this quilt is the fact that all the fabric was leftover from a sunroom we had in Arizona. (which was obviously decorated in Sunflowers! LOL!) This quilt always reminds me of family gatherings enjoyed in that room and of myself as a thrifty young mother who sewed curtains and chair cushions out of sunflower fabric!

This week is all about  BINDINGS and everything and anything BIRDS

BINDINGS

I love quilt bindings. I have fun picking out fun unique bindings that really "pop" or "accent" the finished quilt and I've noticed a lot of you do too!

 I also enjoy sewing my binding down by hand. It really is one of my very favorite parts of quilting. But I've noticed many of you prefer (and do a beautiful job of) sewing your bindings down by machine. 

Just know, whatever your fancy, I'm looking forward to seeing your favorite bindings,     quilt rolls and tutorials this week...

BIRDS

We quilters sure love birds don't we! LOL! I smile as I start to hear them chirp in the morning and enjoy watching them begin to nest in the birdhouses around the yard. So whether your birds are appliqued, black birds, chickens, crows,  fussy cut, owls,  parrots, paper pieced, quilted, wacky, wrens or even made of wool,  do share!
