WELCOME!!!
This is the linky party the let's you rejuvenate old quilting post!!! We're having fun!
If you are new to our linky, read here for details.
This week is all about Quilts made from CHARM PACKS and well, ones that feature CHICKENS! (LOL! It's a "C" and I thought some of ya may have a few quilts with chickens in them.)
CHARM PACK QUILTS:
What are we to do with all those charm packs we seem to accumulate?? One sure did come in handy when my oldest daughter wanted me to teach her how to make her first quilt back in 2012. Sewing a charm pack together was the perfect way for her to learn that 1/4" seam and how to "nest" those rows.
I quilted it on my long-arm using a Caribbean Flowers pantograph.
We laughed, as even though she tried to "keep it random", she still ended up with some blues and purples smack dab next to each other. (Oh well!) This ended up being a nice 55"x70" throw quilt. She did a good job don't ya think!
CHICKENS
Okay, truth be told, I searched through all my archives, folders of quilts made and this is the ONLY chicken I could find amongst them all. LOL!! Yep! It's the life- cycle of a chicken as illustrated by one of my second graders on my current Classroom Animal Quilt project I'm working on finishing this week. I have a feeling you guys will have much better "chicken" themed items than I! (Although I do admit this one is awfully cute!!)
Hmmmmmmm, well I got no chicken quilts .... but I have a couple of charm pack ones I'll link to. One is a completed quilt (that went to baby granddaughter Sadie) and another is just a top made from a free pattern shared by Fat Quarter Shop. I really think I could be happy to just buy oodles and oodles of charm packs and make lots and lots of quilts quick and easy!
ReplyDeleteYou taught your daughter the right way, I just love her quilt and I bet she does too. The chicken block is so sweet. Thanks for sharing, not sure I have anything for this week but I do for future Tuesday's!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe that I bought my first charm pack a week ago? Well, you should. I look forward to seeing what everyone else makes with charms.
ReplyDeleteA week ago! WOW!! Sometimes I just find them so irresisable.
DeleteVery nice charm pack quilt, and lovely quilted. Your chicken block is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this fun linky each week, Val. And what a pretty daughter you have! She did a great job on that charm pack quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting on the quilt and what a great combination of colors. I have to agree with you, the chicken blocks are cute.
ReplyDeleteLove the charming quilt! I have never purchased a charm pack or made chicken blocks. I feel like an outsider. Perhaps I will try to charm my way out of this predicament by clucking? Awkward! ;)
ReplyDeletePlease don't feel awkward....different strokes for different folk, I always enjoy your thrifty finds...makes me wish I had more time to find all the deals you do!!!
DeleteCan you believe that I've NEVER made a quilt with a charm pack? I always buy bigger cuts. Even if I'm making a quilt with precuts, it's usually a layer cake. No chickens either, lol! But I'll be excited to browse everyone else's this week!
ReplyDelete:) Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation
Ya know Kelly, now that you mention it, you do use the larger cuts. But I love visiting your blog as you always remind me that simple is beautiful!! I love your work!
DeleteI haven't made a chook quilt or used a charm pack. I will be looking for ideas to use the one I won from you
ReplyDelete...we'll be looing forward to seeing what you create from it!!! Lots of inspiration here today!!
DeleteI have never purchased a charm pack or any of the precuts-lol I guess I am out of the loop-but they just seem too expensive to me for the convenience (just me I am sure)--love your chicken block-
ReplyDeleteI found the cutest chicken quilt pattern in a past quiltmania magazine that I sitll have on my to do list.
have a great week Val
I had hoped DT would make a charm quilt with me so she could learn to sew. At the moment, she thinks it's boring and want's nothing to do with the sewing machine. It's nice that your daughter at least made one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty quilt your daughter made.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty charm pack :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love this quilt! It is my favorite quilt when I watch tv. This was a fun little project and I'm so glad I was able to finish it with your help. Looking forward to making more in the future :) Way to go mom! I haven't checked out your blog in so long, I love going through all of your posts! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThanks girl!
