No this is not my morning stack of pancakes...but 70 flowers made from two inch EPP hexagons that have been waiting to be put together into a quilt for about, um, two years.
Our youngest daughter and I feel in love with this Joel Dewberry Heirloom Fabric Line from Free Spirit. She is making her own set but with a different colored center. Hers continues to be a WIP but here's what mine looked like on the design wall two years ago:
They have since been moved from wall to basket...forgotten, like so many of our WIP find themselves doing. So having no hand-sewing project I'm working on and motivated my Marcia's May for Me linky at Crafty Sewing & Quilting, I couldn't think of a better way to sneak in some quiet time for myself than by joining her annual linky. The theme is all about celebrating those few minutes a day you take just for you. My goal is to have these all sewn into rows and ready to baste onto their background fabric by the end of the month.

Val, they are just beautiful! I hope you get them all sewn together - they definitely deserve to be shown off! I have yet to be 'bitten' by the hand sewing bug. Not sure it will ever hit but I just love seeing others handwork. This one is really great! Can't wait to see your progress on it :)

ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing in this quilting life are hexie quilts and yours, Val, is going to be beautiful. I love that you can take these little beauties anywhere and whip them out and enjoy a li'l hand stitching. Have fun stitching them!

ReplyDelete2" hexies are a good idea, grow much quicker, I have cut lots of papers ready to have a go one day! The 1" ones I have been doing I am rather bored with so hopefully you have inspired me to start again

ReplyDeleteOh . . . I have that collection of fabrics and put off doing the simple quilt that was patterned for them. This is a great idea. I wonder if I can machine join them with a tiny zig zag and some super fine or invisible thread. My hands don't work well enough to hand piece.
