BOM: My Cabin Applique

It feels good to have started my new BOM applique project.
It's always fun to watch an applique project transition from pattern to...

...some relaxing hand-sewing.
This measures 17"x21".
I think what I love most about applique though, is having some simple sewing to wind down with at the end of the day. Today finds me cleaning out my clothes closet in preparation of returning back to work/school in a few weeks. Yet, afterwards, I look forward to some stitching on this as I enjoy an afternoon Lifetime movie. How about you, when is your favorite time to get in a little hand sewing??

  1. I love hand stitching, which would be why I'm a hand quilter and why I've got two EPP projects underway. My favorite time would be any time of day!

  3. Oh I love this! :) You'd asked about my house block pattern...I answered on the blog but will answer here too. I have the home sweet home book. I did two blocks last year but changed them up....putting in my hollyhock that grew so tall, things like that. This year the flag block uses her house template but I drew the flag using an idea from a different quilt in their book and just played around a bit. The original quilt in the book has nine house blocks but I think i will just do four...I really want to work on a floral applique one more...

  5. Love your house block, Val. Is that your design?

I love to hand stitch on weekend nights, after the errands and chores are finished. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much time for it lately.

  6. The house block is pretty cute. I have a hard time finding time for the hand stitching since I have so little time to sew that it's hard to fit in hand work.

  8. Great job! I love it. The only time I can do hand stitching is in the evening watching some television. If I can ever find anything worth watching, that is.

  9. What a sweet cabin block. Love the plaid for the cabin. I wish I could do hand sewing some where other than in the car. Maybe then I would be a bit further on my hexie project. One of these days I"m going to try hand applique, once I learn to hand sew outside the car :)

  10. your cabin is looking good, I can hand sew any time! Blog first thing in the morning then the day is free to stitch as and when I want. Love the summer for the light evenings but not so good at stitching once it is dark especially hand stitching

  11. Evenings after the kids are in bed is my favorite time to unwind with some stitching. Your house looks lovely - that porch would be a great place to stitch =)
