My New Year Sew-Along Plans (updated)

Always near-by, I catch Jackson staring at me more often than not lately.
He probably misses being pictured with a quilt but, he's also probably wondering what I'm doing.
Admittably, I have been doing more creative thinking than sewing lately.
So along with setting personal goals of health and well being, I've been scowered the internet and all your blogs for a sew along(s) to join in 2016. This morning I found the perfect ones for me:
First, starting January 18th, is Lori Holt's Bloom Sew Along.  So I ordered these:

And as much as I would love to order a big bundle of Lori's fabrics, I'm going to use this Sew Along to bust through this tote of 30's fabrics I collected early on when I started quilting:

And our blogging friend Carole is having a Scrap Dance 2 QAL
that I'm already cutting 2 1/2"x 3" squares for.
Scrap Dance Quilt Along

Andddd... my scrap bins are overflowing so I'm looking forward to participating in the RSC:

I realized as time went on since this post, that I don't sew everyday.
I already have have two on-going hand projects. And this one has been neglected already!
So as enticed as I am by the Quilty 365, I can't commit.

Whew! THAT felt good to admit. I so wish I didn't have to sleep. LOL!!
Just so much I want to do in a day.
But I'm learning...to say no and not over commit...
as when I do, it really puts a crutch in  my creative energy.

  2. Your color idea is amazing. Thanks for sharing the charts. This Color information is new to me and I find it very intriguing. I started the 365 block challenge in November. I am enjoying it a lot.as always Jackson is adorable.

  3. I'm a committment-phobe when it comes to sew-alongs. I have a hard enough time sewing along with myself. But I will have a blast watching yours. Thanks for sharing those color charts--that's a neat way to plan your challenge.

  4. You have selected a couple of fun sew alongs. I plan to participate in one that hasn't been announced yet. Other than that, my goal is to do some UFO busting :)

    Love Jackson's photo!

  6. I've already decided to join the Quilty 365. And as I love Lori Holt's fabrics and patterns, I might join that one, too. I'll jump over to look at it. I've done Lori Holt before, and I love it. Maybe we can go together into 2016. Great.

  8. Hey Val. I love the idea of those charts but gotta go to the ipad to enlarge them to read. I have to evaluate my word of last year, and pick one for next year... what about you? LeeAnna

  10. Looks like you have a busy year planned! I just tend to quilt and sew by the seat of my pants! I never know what my next project may be!

  11. I joined a couple sew alongs last year and so far I'm way, way behind. I think in 2016 I'll do like Lesley does and "sew by the seat of my pants." But, then again, I'm sure I'll find something to join. :O)

  12. I am starting Quilty 365 in January. I don't have a firm plan yet but my head is filled with ideas. It will be fun to see all the quilts being made.

  13. Okayyyyyy....I wasn't going to join any Bees, or sew alongs, or any commitments, because I did two Bees this year, and they were a bit time consuming (but I loved them for all the new methods I learned), and the QAL I joined I never started. Not a good track record. But the Quilty 365 sounds fun! And I know just the fabric I'm going to use for it. So I'll join you!

  14. Oops - I forgot already! I am also doing the Gen X Quilters' Sisters Sampler Quilt BOM. It looks fun, and again, learning new skills. http://www.genxquilters.com/p/block-of-month.html

    But that's it. I promise!

  17. your circle projects look fun, and I love the color charts too.
I have a couple gift quilts in the works that I want to make and finish next year, I also started the civil war hexie quilt-a big project especially with allot of painful arthritis in my left hand-but I am determined to see if I can still do hand sew that I am also wanting to spending more time on weaving, dyeing, spinning-so will see how all this goes.
Merry Christmas ps can you email me your mail address

  18. Oh, dear -- your color charts are making me feel neurotic. I'm looking at my outfit, wondering if the color choices I am wearing are telling the world that I have something to be ashamed of!!! :-(

But that sounds like a really fun plan for your circle quilt.

  19. I haven't got any sew along plans ATM apart from hosting one on my blog and another at quilt club, I just really want to tackle my WIP and UFO tubs in the first quarter of the year really and make lots more charity quilts for my new favorite charity (details later on the blog once I actually have a charity quilt ready to donate). That'll make my sewing studio less crowded and make space for more fabric lol

  21. You've got some fun quilt alongs on your list for 2016. I'll do the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again this year. That and Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt will probably be it for me in 2016.

  22. While I'd love to join in some of them, and might still, I'm mostly going to take a back seat next year and watch. I have way too many of my own projects that I really want to get completed.

  23. This looks like fun! My only plan is to sew more since I'm not doing much lately :)

  24. The color charts are intriguing. I wonder what I will use in 2016. Looks like you have great plans for the sew along.

  25. I love your colour charts, Val. Guess what, I'm going to be doing the circle a day too, starting on New Year's Day; I wonder how long I'll stick at it! I'll be circle cutting next week to have a batch ready to go.

  26. I know what you mean about over committing -- I think I definitely suffered that fate in 2015. So 2016 is about really getting realistic about what I can do and then planning for getting it done (it doesn't get done *just* because I think it can do it). Good luck on your 2016 QALs/SALs!!
