Slow Stitching & Reflecting

The first month of the year is almost behind us, and I find myself reflecting upon what's motivating me, and what's not. I joined Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge in hopes I would be more intentional about sewing daily. Nope. In reflection, I'm more of a "binge" sewer. I like to sew on Saturdays when my husband is working. I enjoy spending most the day in what my niece referred to as my "Woman Cave" (#sewing room). I look forward to my Saturdays. I find they provide the perfect opportunity to continue this year's OMG challenge. I am enjoying my monthly stash busting and the patterns I'm choosing make for some easy, rejuvenating Saturday sewing...perfect way to end a week.

I'll save daily sewing for Summertime when I'm off from teaching.
Thank goodness for my hand stitching is all I can say! So with that said, I think I'll sit by the fire a bit longer this morning and enjoy a bit more of it. Happy Sunday Stitching everyone and I hope you too are meeting some of your goals for 2018 and adjusting them when needed.

I specialize in edge to edge pantographs with over 100 designs to choose from.

  1. I can see why waiting till summer would work for you. I started looking for 15 minutes every day because when the SIT was younger, we usually had swim meets or volleyball tournaments on the weekend. So often, the only way I got anything done was grabbing a few minutes every day. But at least you tried it and realized that it just doesn't fit the way you work.

  2. I'm more of a binge sewer also. Partly because I don't have a dedicated sewing space and partly because it takes me a little while to get into the 'zone' where I'm focused and not distracted by the days news, worries, etc.

  4. I am the same....I want to stitch a little each day, but my daily schedule never works that way. Perfect photo of slow stitching with fireplace and fuzzy friend.

  5. Oh, what do you teach? I'm a retired teacher - self-contained special ed class for kids with cognitive deficits - so I totally understand not having time/energy for everyday sewing. It looks like you have the perfect place to hand sew with the fireplace and the perfect companion to sew with!!

  6. Good for you for such self awareness! No need to jump on a bandwagon that isn't going the direction you want to go. (How's that for mangling a metaphor??) As the kids say these days, You do You :)

  7. Where did January go? I say do what works for you. I set goals sometimes and then when I don't get it to for a day I feel bad. I find I binge on projects maybe I just need a change of pace once in a while. Right now I need to decide on the color of fabric to finish my trailing vines. I have no idea so I moved on to getting my strings sewn.

  9. I binge quilt too and as you know with the summer off from work is really when I produce tons of projects. That looks so cozy by your fireplace with Jackson. I am hunkered on the couch binding and awaiting the Grammys!

  11. I avoid things like 15 minutes a day, 365 challenges and most mystery quilts because my time availability fluctuates so much depending on the season. We go to FL for two months and I garden, so I quilt when I can and don't worry about it. It certainly helps to have a deadline, like a new baby, or a retirement (I'm 8 months behind on that one), or some other event related project, but otherwise I'm going with the flow and trying to use the stash. I do hope to get more charity quilts done and participate in more block drives. Being retired certainly helps. It should be fun not a task to be finished.

  12. Yes, sewing should be fun, not a chore to do 15 minutes a day. Your hand project is coming along and will get done in its time. Give precious Jackson an ear rub!

  14. The photo is so cuddley, perfect for the slow stitching. I have more trouble with the hand stitching so the 15 min a day thing is up my alley. Hoping to establish taking time to do it. I enjoy it, but never think to do it while setting down in the evening. TV and reading seem just to pop up. And really not that crazy about either one any more.
