Extra thread is for the birds!

This morning I was cleaning out our birdhouses from the Spring.

Imagine my pleasure when I found some of these scraps
and threads I leave out for the birds:

In here:

Serious!! I cracked up when I immediately saw the red poka-dot scrap! As I took a closer look, I found my colorful thread leftovers interwoven throughout, along with candy wrappers, grass, feathers and twigs of course! (Top left...there's even the paper from a almond chocolate kiss!!)
For some reason, this just made me happy today!

Val:)

PS: I have since modified my "feeder" by actually running my rotary cutter through my bunches of thread first to create shorter pieces for the birds:

  2. I love this so much that I pinned it on Pinterest. I think I've seen this idea before, but never the proof that the birds actually use it.

Looking at the photo of your scraps, and what the birds actually used, made me think that they might be inclined to use more if the scraps were smaller and the lengths of yarn a bit shorter.

    Thanks for sharing.

  8. I knew birds would use the scraps in their nests, but your "storage" solution for the scraps is very clever. One year, the birds pulled apart the liner in a hanging basket to use. I kept wondering why it was shrinking until I saw them pulling pieces off. They are resourceful.

  9. I loved this the first time I read it! I have thought about it often when I sliver trim some of my blocks!
