Fall Fun!

I really want to try my hand at making some home-made applesauce this year.
So before we hit the golf course yesterday, we went apple picking.

We found ourselves having to climb a bit to get to our yummy fruit but had fun as we worked to maneuver ourselves between all the branches, feeling like a little kid...but surely not as agile!

They had an apple that was a cross between the Jonathan and Golden (JonaGolds) recommended for applesauce. I can tell you, from the first bite, I knew these were going to be worth the climb!
We spent the rest of the afternoon on the golf course. It's hard to resist being outside when it's this pretty and the temperatures are a perfect 70 degrees! Fall comes and goes way too fast it seems.

On our way home, we stopped by the hardware store and bought a quick peel, core and slice apple machine. One more cup of coffee and it's time to start prepping my apples.
And though it's been hard to spend time inside when the weather is so nice, I also hope to spend some time in the ol' sewing studio today. I have a friend's quilt on the frame and I'm making good progress on our grand-guys Super Hero birthday quilt. I'll be sure to share all my quilty progress soon.
Until then, let me wish everyone a wonderful day and as always, thanks for stopping by.

  2. Too bad you don't live closer, I have 7 apple trees filled with tons of apples! Most get eaten by the deer all winter...

  3. I used to pick apples at a local orchard years ago and could bring all the wind fall apples home that I wanted. We started canning applesauce as a family project. At least 100 quarts each year. JonaGolds were my all time favourites until we could no longer find any. This year my few trees have absolutely no apples on them. Maybe next year.

  4. Looks like you had a fun day! I bought one of those peeling/corer gizmos several years ago and wondered why I waited so long--lol!

  5. Don't you look sweet and happy up there in the apple tree. Have fun making your applesauce . . . nothings is as good as homemade.

  6. I love homemade applesauce, but at this point, I buy my apples, not pick them. We're in the middle of NY apple country, so it's not hard to find local apples. Looking forward to seeing the grandguy's new quilt. I'm making a quilt for the baby next door (he's 7 months old already, yikes!). Too many other things kept getting in the way, but it's in progress now and first in line for a finish.

  9. Looks like you had a great time! I love to make applesauce in my slow cooker, and my son (same age as your grand-guy) loves to help--make it and eat it!! Hope yours turns out scrumptious!

  10. My kids grew up thinking apple sauce was chunky, with lots of apple peels. I guess it’s really stewed apples. We like to add cinnamon and raisins. Less time peeling, more time for sewing. Enjoy.

  16. Yum, I made applesauce yesterday! Mom and Dad had a bear hop their (10 ft high) fence and climb the apple tree, breaking off a large branch. So, they didn't have to climb a ladder to pick some of the apples! Anyway, I was gifted a lug of apples and yesterday cooked a pot of applesauce. Love autumn!! These pictures are really cute Val!
