Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop + Give-Away!

Oh how fun Lorna's Dog Gone Cute Blog Hop has been this month!
I got mine finished just in time for my "hop" day today. I used my favorite dog pantograph.to quilt it and...wellllll....okay, the binding isn't on and I just realized I didn't even snap a picture of the backing. I geuss that gives me a great opportunity for more show-n-telling during the final linky party starting November 3rd! Right?! (Btw...I plan to use a solid black binding.)  But seriously, wasn't this pattern so fun and easy!! Thank you so very much Lorna!
Sew Fresh Quilts
And if any of you are are like me, as soon as ya finally finish a quilt, ya run to the nearest person (in my case, my hubby) and dramatically present your finish...you know, like they've never seen it over the last month of it's production! LOL!! (God bless them for their patience with us!)Yet, with complete disregard of that fact, you dramatically present your finish anyways! So lucky am I that he says: "I think this one is really my favorite Val." (I just love my guy!!) And I have to agree! Having been a house full of Jack Russells over the past twenty years, I have to say, this quilt will hold a special place in all of our hearts and be well used.
I used the 15" block pattern and this quilt finished to be 56"x60".
The middle row of pups going down were created in honor of the Jack Russells that have been in our life over the last twenty years: Lily, Jackson, Cami and Frazier. Yes, and below is Jackson posing with HIS block. (Such a ham I know! LOL!!!) He's just always close by...Cami was curled up in a ball on the couch sleeping, unaware of anything else going on. I'm going to tell you though, what differentiates Jackson from all the other dogs in our life is the that he is THE only dog we  have raised from a pup. All the other dogs in our life have been rescue dogs.
Which brings me to ask you...what is it that you love about your favorite pup(s)? For me, I absolutely love Jackson's sincere loyalty to me. He is my constant companion. My hubby snapped this picture of us as I was creating this post and texted it to me saying..."Seriously!"
Yeep! Seriously! (LOL!!) As much as I loved working with rescue dogs and giving them a good home, Jackson was my empty nest pup. He was the first puppy we ever had. We were new to the empty nester phase of life, my hubby was working swing and graveyard shifts. It was often just Jackson and me during a very lonely, transitional time for me....so thus our bond started and my quilting hobby began. Yes, THE REST IS HISTORY here on my blog.
December 2009. Jackson was twelve weeks old here.
So here's what is up for grabs when you comment and share what it is you love most about your favorite pup: (This little zipper bag measures 5"x7" and has a vinyl interior.)
This give-away is closed.
And hey if you are new to my blog from the hop...let me know so I can return the visit and follow...as I can never resist meeting a new dog lover. Happy Dog Gone Cute Blog Hopping everyone and thank you so very much for stopping by my little spot in the blog world. Here's who else is on the hop today and don't forget the linky party starting November 3rd.

  1. Sweet quilt, Val! I love that you pictured some of your own dogs on it. That's neat! I really love it when my dogs come in voluntarily in the morning - something that's not happening today, especially fun because it's pouring outside. Nothing like soaking wet dogs to make your morning complete! But seriously, I am always amazed by how excited they are to see us, every time - even if we only saw them five minutes before then!

  2. Oh, Val! You and Jackson have done an incredible job of this Dog Gone Cute quilt! What a fitting tribute to all the Jack Russell dogs that have become members of your family. Yes, it is apparent how much that Jackson loves you.... And we love him too! Jack's are my fave - each one is so unique with their own personality traits. But all loyal and remarkable in their own ways!

  3. You made a truly gorgeous Dog Gone Cute quilt, Val! Jackson looks good together with the "fabric" dogs.
I am a cat person, and my cat died last November after having reached the mature age of 16+ years. What I loved most about him was his presence and calmness around his family, he gave us so much love and affection. No more pets for us after him.

  6. Val, your version turned out so cute! I love that light blue background. My favorite part is the friendship. It's odd, but that's what it is. They are always there for you. Mine would actually pout when I'd return from a business trip because I'd been gone too long. She'd ignore me for a few hours before settling back into the "following me everywhere" routine.

  7. I've raised two Bernese from pups and have had 3 rescue dogs. Min is my latest rescue and is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. The absolutely sweetest dog I have ever had the pleasure to live with. I can't wait to modify Lorna's pattern just a bit to resemble the Bernese and Swiss!

  8. Hi Val and Jackson! Your quilt is fantastic and very special because there are your own puppies. Jackson looks so cute when he's a puppy!
I'm a dog person and have lived with 9 dogs (not all together but usually at least 2). All they came to us as puppies, even Hanna and Foxy who we rescued. Also we have found new home for 2 other rescue puppies and they all stayed for a while with us. The best two summers were when we had Foxy, Hanna, Nero, Nelli and a puppy waiting to travel to a new home! It was fun to be in the garden all that 'gang' around. In the food-time everyone ate nicely from their on bowl. I hope that I can always have dog(s) because other wise life would be very quiet. They give me joy and make me laugh every day! Without Nero, I wouldn't write blog, without those rescue puppies + one cat, I wouldn't have my best friend and so much more. And you see, they even help me to make quilts! Hugs to you and Jackson! x Teje

  9. Such a sweet quilt full of puppy love! Those pics of you with your pup are just too cute. My two pups, Bruster and Bella, are loyal and loving...can't imagine my life without them!

  10. Your quilt turned out beautifully, and those the dogs on the quilt really do look like your dog. Yep I'm a dog lover also. Zeus follows me around from room to room.

  11. What an adorable post! Our fur babies are little heart beats at our feet. I'm not sure I would know how to live in a house without at least one sharing life with me. 😊

  12. Oh Val, I just love this post, our doggies are our life, we love them so and this is what I see here with you and Jackson. Hes such a sweet boy and a ham to boot! We have four dogs, 2 black lab mixes, a golden Shepard and our newest addition a Cairn Terrier mix....they are all so funny and loving. One of my black girls just cracks me up, whenever one of us gets home, she has to run for a stuffed toy and cry and wiggle her butt like crazy...so funny! But thats how she shows how happy she is to see us! We love her! We love them all!

  13. Jackson is adorable and looks like he is a great friend and snuggle bug. Our family currently has 3 dogs all rescues. Maggie a boston mix, and Becker and Newton Pit Bull mixes, brothers from the same litter and have never went a day of their lives without each other. I love how dogs are like people and most definitely have their own personalities. My life would not be as complete without my furry companions. And of course Oliver the cat, who is giving me the death look as I type. Hope you and Jackson have many good snuggles with your Dog Gone Cute quilt :)

  14. Oh I love how it turned out - Jackson looks happy with it too! My favourite thing about Charly is she never gives up. Being a miniature Jack Russell she is quite tiny but always finds a way to climb up on things to get to the window to chase the birds or pesky cat away!

  15. Love your quilt and love your cute, cuddly Jackson, too. We have a Golden Retriever and my favorite thing about her is her ability to always make me feel better--I defy anyone to not smile at a Golden; they are always so happy!

  21. I love your quilt and the story about your bond with Jackson. We have never had a Jack Russell, but our neighbors had a great one named Rugby. I missed her when they moved.

  22. Hi Val: Great version of the quilt. I don't have any of my own pups at present but my favourite belongs to my husbands cousin. He's a rescue dog from a Northern Reserve. He looks sort of like a Corgi and he always looks happy.

  23. Love your quilt, and Jackson. We have a 12 yo Yorkie, named Gobble. She is our little baby. She has had diabetes for almost 3 years. She gets insulin shots twice a day. When she gets her shots, she jumps up on the couch, and turns her shoulder to whichever side she wants the shot in. My husband says that she has more clothes than he has.

  25. So that opening photo with with Jackson standing guard over the quilt...and the pumpkins...best ever!!! I can relate to every single word of your post! My husband is also supportive of my quilting. And our most recent dog, Tula, was ALL MINE! Thanks for sharing.

My little girl gives me such comfort and love, just as my other dogs before her.

  28. Your quilt is just gorgeous and so is Jackson! We have only had our new "rescued" dog Chilli for a few weeks but already she is my fitness motivator and loyal companion.

  29. Love all your cute doggy blocks! The blue background really sets them off. Beautiful!!

  30. Jackson approves! Me, too. Dogs are wonderful - the unconditional love that comes from them is immeasurable. What a gift! My puppy is almost 16 years old, and as an Old Lady, she has become a special needs dog. But that's okay! We carry her up and down the steps, walk slowly around the yard with her (it's not fenced, but she couldn't run away if she wanted to). Our son's dog, which we have been keeping for him for the past two years, runs circles around her and I think helps to keep her going. Life is good!

  31. Each of our dogs have fit ur lives at the time. Casey was a purebred beagle that a friend's dog had. Our daughter was 2 at the time and he was a wonderful protector and playmate. She was a stubborn little female drag who earned the middle name loser when she destroyed the couch one day. Molly was a chihuahua/terrier mix form the pound who was badly injured from being kicked. She also had just had a liter of pups that the dog catcher wasn't able to find so Molly adopted tiny stuffed animal from my daughter and insisted that she had them nurse at night and shed tuck them all in very close to her. Molly was a dog I needed when I was first diagnosed with a disease. Gracie we bought from a breeder because she threatened to dispose of her because she was a mistake. She was a Chinese crested/miniature sheltie, she wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box but was a beautiful color. High strung, afraid of everything, and barked constantly she was a lot to handle but I loved her so. We now have Lucy a Chiweenie and she is as silly as her breed's name. She was my empty nest puppy for a rescue group. She will always be a baby, my baby.

  34. My quilt top is almost together. I'm hoping to be finished on time. We have a rescue Pomeranian we got in 2008. I convinced my husband on this one over a larger terrier cross. I'm the primary caregiver to this dog. I feed him, bathe him, pick up after him, but who's lap does he want to be on? My husband's!

  35. Love that your blocks are inspired by actual pups in your life. Too cute!

  36. I love your quilt and your pups. We're currently owned by a rescue Labrador who's my constant companion. He has his own quilt on the floor in my sewing room. Hubby works away alot so he's also my protection and company xx

  37. My black lab mix rescue dog Blue is a gentle soul, just the sweetest puppy, and loves to be by my side. It is amazing how caring he is. He loves to be petted and wants to be a 70 pound lap dog.

  38. I love your husband's comment! I have to say that this block (and all the beautiful quilts, pillows, etc.) that people are creating just make me smile! Dogs are such amazing creatures. We miss our Kasey terribly but right now are OK dog-sitting for our grand-dogs as our life is pretty busy. I think we will someday get our "retirement" dog when we finally slow down!

  39. Beautiful quilt! I love the blue background.... it makes the pups pop!! Your Jackson is such a cutie... and has to be my favorite pup block. I love how you have featured your own puppies in this lovely quilt.

  40. I have to agree to "Seriously!" That's adorable. The quilt is a great way to remember all your pups, I think my hubby would like something that in the future. We have two dogs that are the polar opposites from each other, yet love and compliment each other. I guess that is what I like the most. They are our first babies and can't imagine our lives without them.

  41. I was able to pick Jackson out of your quilt with out hesitation. Our first dog was our puppy. Since then we have had rescues. Currently we have 2. I think the thing I love most about them is that they so badly want to trust us. It is so distressing to watch them flinch for no apparent reason. They are getting better day by day.

  42. I love the quilt. We have three rescues. My favorite thing about Sam is that she always makes wise doggy choices - except for the time she ate 12 cupcakes with the paper wrappers. My favorite thing about Gracie Rae is that she has learned to trust humans so much; she was special needs and terrified of humans when we adopted her at around one year old. My favorite thing about Roux is her absolute pure love. After spending her first 8 months on the streets, she never stops saying thank you.

  43. ooooo the baby picture of Jackson is the cutest little paws....My lab Chelsea was my daughter, like me wanted to play a lot and loved people. Cole is more like my husband, quiet and timely and serious. It's when he isn't serious, when he leaps on a squeak toy out of the blue, when he grabs a bush as he runs by, when he tilts his head and looks at me when DH asks what he wants that makes me fall for him. When he snuggles up to me during a rainstorm, or leans on me on a walk, when he notices I changed out a wall quilt, I know we're connected. The giveaway is great! 45. Lovely zipper purse and cute Jackson. We rescued a street dog who was a faithful and loving companion till the end of his days. At DH´s orders he was at first not allowed in the house, and ended up weeks later sharing the sofa with us,

  48. Great post - thanks for sharing. My little Buzzy went to doggy heaven 2 years ago. I miss him so and still look behind my chair when I get up from sewing to be sure he doesn't get run over!

  49. When I go to visit my granddogter she meets me at the door with glee--she knows the sound of my car, so is ready and waiting--and then fetches her favorite squeaky toy to joyously talk to me about just how glad she is to see me. Later she'll snuggle up to me for awhile on the couch, just as she does with my son, her Papa, who is her #1 favorite person in the whole world.
