This week's WIP

Sometimes the good ol' long arm comes in handy for other things besides quilting.
I really can't resist making my pups into a lap quilt, so last night was spent cutting out the rest of my blocks. I found the pantograph platform on my long-arm a handy place to lay all my stacks.
I'm  thinking by having all the blocks pre-cut, the sewing will be quicker and more enjoyble??
I also added the "theme" cutting tables to my Tuesday Archives notebook ....as I found myself hunched over all night and miss having my taller cutting table. Hubby just said he'll help me look at a solution this weekend. I'll be sure to share any ingenious ideas he comes up with.
(Cause I'm sure he will, as he's always so good like that...grateful me.)
Hope you've been able to fit in some sew time yourself this week.

  1. Ingenious!

I'm still paying for spending some time hunched over a regular table to cut fabric about 10 days ago. I'd forgotten that I purchased an adjustable table from Home Depot a few months back (I'm short, so a standard cutting table is a little too tall for me).

  2. Go buy some bed risers. They sell them at Walmart and Target in a set of four for under $8. I put the bed risers under all 4 legs of a farm table that is my cutting table. I did the same thing for my ironing table, which is a table with an ironing top made out of plywood that I wrapped Insul Bright batting and home dec fabric around. Sure saves the back for cheap!!!

  3. Daryl is right-bed risers work great. I am tall like you so cutting on a regular table is hard on me. I look forward to seeing your solution.

  4. A few years ago, I bought a counter height wooden table (at a furniture store) to use for my cutting table and I love it! No more hunching over! I highly recommend it.

  6. I use bed risers for my cutting table too. They are inexpensive and it is very sturdy.

  7. I'll have to remember your use of your long arm for planning as an option when I need more space. :)

  8. Yes i use bed rises too under my cutting table which is just a 6 foot long folding table. But whenever I've tried to find a more permanent solution i inevitably decide that it works fine and nothing else would be better.

  10. Thank you for this! I need a cutting table for the new sewing room. Love the idea of laying out all the blocks!
