Baby Gifts Done!

Like many of you, I enjoy making baby quilts but find new moms seem to use the heck out of these extra large, flannel receiving blankets. The first one  I made is for my instructional assistant who is having a baby boy in February and doing an "outdoor" theme for his nursery. The middle one is for my stash of baby gifts and the third one is for a friend who is having a little girl and they are having a "mermaid" themed shower for her. (Cute huh!) So quick and easy to sew them right sides together, turn right side out and add a decorative stitch around the perimeter. (Finished size: 45"x45")

Plus! These are blankets that seem to be a favorite with the little ones for quite awhile,
as witnessed by our own grand guy. Here he is a few days old with his Dinosaur R.B.:

Here he is last June with it as he packed all his "favorite things" to go to preschool.
It doesn't get better than that does it.
Wishing you all a great start to the week.
Our snow days are FINALLY over and I'm looking forward to a NORMAL week.
Well, as normal as things get around here! LOL!!

  1. It is nice to be able to make and give gifts that are useful and appreciated. The receiving blankets are very nice.

I just love the story about your grandson's 'favorite' blanket. NO...it doesn't get any better than that.

Glad your snow days are over. Have a great week.

  6. So cute!! And so easy! I have a few pieces of flannel, but none are as big as 45x45. But I guess they don't have to be square, right? I could do a few 36x45...

  7. Okay, how do you get them to be 45x45 if fabric is only 44" wide? Inquiring minds want to now. Love that your randson still takes his "blankie" to schhol and so cool that the heme is one he can do that with.

    1. I'm magic! LOL! Just kidding. The flannel I bought was 45"wide....but if it was 44" I'd make 44". Some I've made in the past I only had 36" wide and long and made them that big...babies aren't picky..and these homemade blankets are so much more durable than store bought...which are typically very thin.
