I really wanted to find a new stitching project and well, truth be told,
I also wanted some happy mail to look forward to each month..
I found this Dancing Chickens & Flying Pigs wool applique BOM created by Anne Downs while cruising the internet and knew immediately this was exactly what I was looking for.
I like how quick and easy wool applique is and well, I think the blocks are just adorable.
Annnnddd....we are using a linen background, thus this is going to make the perfect wall hanging in one of our guest bedrooms once it's done.
Once I get all the pieces stitched down I'm looking forward to...
...adding some creative stitching to many of the pieces. Don't ya just love that piggy tail!
I do have a question for you fellow stitches though: Do I need to use an embroidery hoop when I stitch the lettering? I'm going to use a black perle cotton for the lettering. Thanks ahead of time.

ReplyDeleteFun project! It is easier to maintain an even tension with a hoop, but it all depends on how you like to stitch. If you are more comfortable stitching in hand then that will work fine. Whatever way you choose it will be an enjoyable stitch. Enjoy.

I like this project. I wish I could find time to add another project. When I did any stitching I used a hoop, but I thing what Joan G said is true. Have fun.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely project. I think I would use a hoop for the lettering otherwise it will be difficult to keep it even. That said it is personal preference!

ReplyDeleteI was going to say "either" but I see that you've made up your mind. I do like using a hoop as a third hand, but sometimes it's easier for me to just gather the material up in my hands. This looks like a fun project--and the combo of wool and linen is delicious!
ReplyDeletegood that you stumbled on this project whilst searching the net, it is lovely. I do use a frame but not a hoop, I have the white plastic one that makes up into different sizes, it works very well. PS your later blog does not appear here so could not comment on it it`s title is An adorable moment.
ReplyDeleteI never used a hoop, just scrunching it in my hand but then I was told to just try it. I find it so much better for most stitching though. It seems to come out more even for me.

ReplyDeleteLovely project! The name made me smile. I think you will have a lot of fun with this one. I like using a hoop for my embroidery, keeps my stitches even. However, make sure the fabric is not too taut. Otherwise once your remove the fabric from the hoop, the fabric will go back to its usual elasticity and cause puckering.

That is a cute pattern, Val. I have never done wool applique' but I like the idea of not having to turn the edges under.
