Fall Fun!

I really want to try my hand at making some home-made applesauce this year.
So before we hit the golf course yesterday, we went apple picking.

We found ourselves having to climb a bit to get to our yummy fruit but had fun as we worked to maneuver ourselves between all the branches, feeling like a little kid...but surely not as agile!

They had an apple that was a cross between the Jonathan and Golden (JonaGolds) recommended for applesauce. I can tell you, from the first bite, I knew these were going to be worth the climb!
We spent the rest of the afternoon on the golf course. It's hard to resist being outside when it's this pretty and the temperatures are a perfect 70 degrees! Fall comes and goes way too fast it seems.

On our way home, we stopped by the hardware store and bought a quick peel, core and slice apple machine. One more cup of coffee and it's time to start prepping my apples.
And though it's been hard to spend time inside when the weather is so nice, I also hope to spend some time in the ol' sewing studio today. I have a friend's quilt on the frame and I'm making good progress on our grand-guys Super Hero birthday quilt. I'll be sure to share all my quilty progress soon.
Until then, let me wish everyone a wonderful day and as always, thanks for stopping by.

Welcome Fall!!!

I welcomed Fall today by replacing Summer banners and wreathes with Fall ones:

I noticed my roses have gifted me with one more round of beautiful blooms too:

And, yes, I'm savoring my first Pumpkin Spice latte of the season!

The rest of the day will find me spending the afternoon enjoying the comforts of home as I stitch and sew in-between loads of laundry and getting our menu made for the week. Seems the change of season also finds us not only enjoying the cooler weather, but replacing BBQ meals with comfort foods like warm bowls of chili and yummy casseroles. I'm sure I'm not alone huh.
Wishing each and everyone of you a happy, happy Fall.!!!

Evening Stitching

With Fall knocking at the door, it was so nice to end my busy week stitching at the kitchen table. The  windows were open and with a glass of "cheer" nearbyI finished my wool birdies and started to trace templates for the flowers that will all be added to my Sunnyside of the Street quilt.

Here's a peek at the birdies finished and blocks awaiting to be stitched together:
A happy weekend of stitching for sure. This week's plan: Once I get these blocks sewn together and it's flowers pinned and prepped for my evening hand stitching, I'm cutting into a bunch of SuperHero fabrics to make our grand-guy's birthday quilt. Luckily with his birthday only three weeks away, I found a quick layer cake/jelly roll pattern. (Hmmmm...I may have procrastinated on this one a little bit!) I tell ya, it sure feels good to be stitching and sewing again...especially as I'm able to open the studio windows and enjoy the Fall crisp air that has finally found it's way to our little part of the world. Hope your days are filled with a little bit of stitching as well.

The Most Adorable Cookies!

Personal resolution #2 this new school year:
I will join a sewing group of some kind.
And this week I'm doing just that! I feel so lucky that our previous applique teacher, who taught at our local quilt store before it went out of business, put together an Applique Club where a few of us will get together for a "sit-n-stitch" the second Tuesday of every month. She is the nicest and most talented person. I had these adorable cookies made for our first meeting and my wool birdies for my Sunny Side of the Street quilt are cut, pinned and ready to stitch. I can't wait!! Stay tuned once again.

A new WIP!!!

I can't even remember the last time I had a new project on the design wall! I'm sooooo excited!
My Labor Day sew day was so productive that I immediately came home and put this WIP on the design wall. If you ever liked Buggy Barn quilt patterns....the One Sister continues the wonkiness and this is her Sunny Side of the Street Pattern from her newest Crazy Kind of Wonderful book.
Next step is the wool applique! Stay tuned! I think this is going to be a quick finish.

A Sew Day!

Personal resolution #1 this new school year:
I will get out at least once a month for a sew day.
I have a tendency to become a hermit once the weekend comes around yet, I miss that inspiration that comes from sewing with other women. The chit chat chatter. The laughs. The sharing of projects and ideas. So this Labor Day finds me packed and ready to go. My friend reserved the library in a small town nearby for us all to meet up and sew in (as she has the same resolution). Stay tuned!
Hope your Labor Day is restful and perhaps filled with a little sewing as well.
PS: Jackson only thinks he gets to go.
