What's your ultimate quilting compliment??

Mine was this:

I walked into my daughter's home and this is what I saw!
The quilts I made them last Christmas neatly folded, soft after obvious use
and many washes, draped on their couch.
Then there was this email from our other daughter:
"Mom I hung my batik quilt above my desk.  I love looking at it everyday!"
My heart is full thinking of their homes cozy and comfy
using the quilts I made them.
This is why I quilt. This is better than any blue ribbon won.
So now I'm totally curious, what has been your
  ultimate quilting compliment?
Feel welcome to comment and share.
With smiles!
Val:)

  1. Like you, its the joy of bringing homemade goodness to the ones I love! Like when my boys come home and just want to wear the pj bottoms I made because they are the greatest comfort. Or when my daughter pins something that I made. Yeah, someone else can have the blue ribbons!

  3. As I am yet to complete my first quilt, it is always on my mind if the receiver will actually like it and use it. I can imagine it would bring a great joy to know that they love it, and that it was as special to the receiver to receive it as it was to the giver to give it.

What a lovely site to see you girls are enjoying their quilts so much. Thanks for sharing.

  4. The other day my granddaughter (age 5) was telling her grandfather all the things she wanted him to buy her for Christmas this year. Then she looked at me and told me that all she wanted from me was another quilt! I've made her a quilt every Christmas since she was two and it's so nice to know that she appreciates and looks forward to them!

  5. I agree when I visited my grandson and saw his quilt sitting on the washing machine and asked do you still use that one ( I made it when he was in grade 5) and the answer from 18 yr old grandson was yes it's my favourite nan :))

  6. I would have to say my biggest thrill happened just this last week. I received a message on facebook from my sister-in-law: "Logan (age 2, nephew) says thank you for the Halloween quilt. When we put our Halloween bedding on our bed last week he wanted the Halloween quilt on his bed. Looks so cute!" It immediately had me planning the child's next 10 quilts. :)

  8. Mine was when I won a ribbon (Viewer's choice, not juried) at a quilt show when I entered my first quilt ever. What made it special was it was my first quilt ever made with encouragement from an elderly (90 yr old) lady from our church that first helped me to quilt. She was no longer alive when I decided to enter (with trepidation cause I was new to this thing called quilting). However I knew my friend would have been very pleased & happy for me. Besides I bit off a little bit more than I should on my first quilt. Made a square in a square, using all scrap fabric. Each square measured only 4 1/2 inches finished & was hand quilted to boot. There were 340 blocks (none alike since I was using scraps) in the quilt & I made 2 exactly alike at the same time so my twin sister & I could have matching quilts when we roomed together in the nursing home when we got old. We're not there yet! Ha! We celebrate another birthday later this month. It was a birthday gift for her back then. Victoria (from Linus Project in Nampa)

  9. I am so enjoying all these comments. How special that your family loves your quilts. Mine is that whenever I meet a friend or girlfriend of my 30-something son, they have already heard about and seen pictures of my quilts!! That makes a mama proud. Also, when I asked my 10 year old grandson what he wants his next quilt to be he said, "I don't care Gramma, I love ALL your quilts!"

  11. Victoria....340X2....I knew you were amazing the day I met you!!! I LOVE LOVE your story and chuckle at the thought of the two of you in a nursing home with matching quilts...for some reason I don't think you'd be the quietest room in the hall!

  14. What fun to read these stories. My biggest compliment was when my daughter-in-law said, "the point isn't whether the kids NEED another quilt. The point is that that's how you show your love so make them as many as you want!"

  15. Isn't it wonderful when your daughter's appreciate your quilts? It is the same for me when I visit my sons. Both have their quilts out to use and display. The quilts you made for your daughters are all beautiful and colorful! Love the wall hanging. The large pinwheel is so pretty! What a great quilt to cuddle under while relaxing.

  16. This is so sweet Val. In March I gave my sister a quilt for her 60th bday. She loved it and later wrote me a note saying that she "felt honored that I gave her this gift" and that she "treasured it." Heartwarming, for sure.
