LINKY: 2nd Annual Piggy Bank Savings = Money for Quilting Challenge

This is the week we empty our "piggy banks" and create a post to link and share how much we've saved over the year....and even more fun, what quilty treat you are going to spoil yourself with!

Even in this modern day of credit/debit cards, I'm still a cash spending gal. I always seem to  smile when I'm given change at the register as sugar plums and quilty treats start dancing around in my head! But this a habit I've obviously had for a long time as below is a picture of  my very first piggy bank. Serious! I use to love how it was the color of a penny and shaped like a shoe. I use to really love that I needed a "key" to open the bottom. Now THAT in itself  made saving money fun! This little shoe secured my babysitting money and allowance away from my sister. LOL!! Click here to read what I bought with my first "piggy bank" savings...I'm still smiling as I sit here thinking about my teenage self in that previous post!
You know what they say:  a penny saved is a penny earned.

In our household, this year the winner is, for the first time: ME!!!
I had $61.20 is change and $83.00 in bills. ($144.20 total)
I plan to use my cash during an upcoming August road trip I'm taking by myself as a return trip from seeing our grandson. I plan to stop at all my favorite quilt stores along my 250 mile return journey and splurge on whatever I want! How fun right!!!
Hubby had $113.77 in change and $3.00 in bills. ($116.77 total)
He plans to use it to buy accessories for his truck.

NOW it's your turn to share!
Last year 33 of you linked your piggy banks and even more joined through email after the linky closed. Well, today is the day to empty those that piggy banks my friends and create a post to link here with us exclaiming your total amount saved and share what quilty purchase you're going to make!
Also, the code to our challenge button challenge is on my sidebar.

  1. I failed - well, I had my savings - but I am not touching them as I have no idea what my car repair cost will be (and I had a house fix that ate into it, too).

  4. how good you are, I tend to save small change but then raid it as soon as it gets to about £10 but maybe will hold onto it for the year this time

  5. I've raided mine through the year to get some cash. $10 in quarters rolled here and there for a $10 bill from the safe at work. I do plan to start this year (OK, can I steal from the coins DH brings home and puts on the counter each day???) Congrats on your win. For the $22 I did I got some backing fabric for my next two quilts on sale 60% off last week =).

  7. I still can't believe it has been a year already-considering I am pretty much a hermit these days, and usually purchase things with a check or online, and rarely carry cash I did manage to save 40.00 in change plus allot of pennies. I did have several bills but needed those for something several months back. I think I will keep the change where it is and add to it or I am going to a fiber fest next weekend to learn more spinning-so may just use it to buy something fun in wool or alpaca, or perhaps a new hand spindle

  8. This year I saved $294 all change, which paid for a whirl wind trip to Paducah, KY!
gas, meals, entrance for hubby & I to the Quilt Museum and a visit to a couple quilt shops. I did spend a little ( other money) at quilt shops, but the change savings paid for the travel, meals, museum, gift store purchases and my next 2 blocks for the millefiore sew along from PaperPieces. I didn't even know they were in Paducah, my hubby found them. :)
I am already saving for next year. :)
