A Fall Morning...

The kids were all lined up, ready to start their day with me.
Yet, as I looked out towards their playground, I was struck by the serenity of this moment.
I love the transition of life that occurs in the Fall. It's such a season of contrasts. Trees put on a vibrant show...then just as quick, go dormant for the winter. Many of us replace mowing with raking leaves...and soon, snow shoveling. We turn our clocks back to grab just one more hour of sunshine in the morning ...yet it also welcomes our nightly trek towards those long dark winter nights. In the home, cotton sheets are replaced with flannel and down comforters are an added layer under homemade quilts.  Cold dinner salads are exchanged for warm, soothing soups and crock pot meals.
So now I'm kinda curious what seasonal transitions do you have?? Please do share...

  1. Fall is the best season of all for making soups, stews and homemade breads, yum!

  2. It's the season to pull out the sweaters and warm blankets. The early dark is a good reason to curl up with a good book and a warm dog on your feet. Hot chocolate with marshmallow and time to keep the crockpot going.

  3. Hubby and I have moved north. We are getting used to warmer weather. Everyone here is still cold and I am in my summer clothes. We are expecting mid 30's c. I am so happy. No snow here...

  4. We've had some foggy mornings this week too. Fog gathers in the valley and between the trees in the forest, now dressed in their autumn best. Sweaters come out, and fireplaces are readied for chilly days. It is a perfect day to watch old movies and sew, then spend some time with my latest good book.

  5. It's a beautiful misty morning! Time to pull out the flannel sheets and the pug boys' jackets!

  6. I too like to pull out the crock pot and flannel sheets, and always more quilts! But winter in Georgia is cold and damp and rarely does the sun make an appearance. While I enjoy the brief colors of autumn, it makes me sad thinking about what's to come. Sigh.

  7. I just the other day packed away the Halloween porch decorations and it looks so blank, can't wait to put the Christmas tree out there soon!

  9. We try to avoid truly freezing weather in the boat, as the water temperature really influences the temps inside. So generally, we head south in the winter. Still pull out sweaters and comforters, just not as heavy and thick as yours :) The shorter amount of daylight is what we really notice, since it's particularly hard to move the boat at night. Here in the "Low Country" of South Carolina and Georgia, we also have to pay close attention to the tides. The combination of the right tide level during daylight can be tricky to find in the winter!

I don't miss snow and ice, but I do miss vibrant fall colors. And there's no way to have a fireplace on the boat, so I miss that bit of cozy comfort. I can't even safely have real, open flame candles and have to settle for the battery operated kind :)

  10. Have just returned from visit to two sets of grands in Houston where temps were in the mid to high 80's the whole 9 days. Spent today (in western NY) cleaning up the plant debris from the first hard freeze. High tomorrow in the 20's with a chance of lake effect snow. So I think I'll be staying inside and quilting.

  11. Great picture. What a great way to look at the change of seasons. I will admit to putting the flannel sheets and a down comforter on the bed. Jeff didn't mind the flannel sheets, but he hated the down comforter.

  12. Love the photo! We switch to more crock pot meals when the weather starts cooling down. My favorite is replacing ice water with hot tea. It's the best de-stressing mechanism after a day at work.
