A Garland of Spools!

Wondering what to do with your old spools of thread??

Most of mine are saved from my mother's sewing box and are over fifty years old. They are made of wood, plastic and even gold foiled. Tired of the old bucketful sitting around, I thread them onto a sturdy piece of wire.
I added old beads made of wood and glass...
...accenting between each, with large buttons, colorful ribbon and scraps of fabric.
Altogether they make for a very cute and colorful garland don't ya think!
Curious if you've done something crafty with an old bucket of spools??

  1. I gave all Mom's thread spools and her sewing machine to her newlywed granddaughter that wanted to sew. She used it all up! So proud of her for learning to sew.

    Your valence is Kuuuuuu UTE!

No I have not, but I have thought about one day decorating a small table top Christmas tree with sewing notions. Wouldn't it be cute in your quilting room?

  6. What a darling idea!! I don't have that kind of window trim to do that, I love that kind of architecture. I made some old spools into Christmas ornaments once.

  9. How fun! And a great use for old thread that might just break in your machine. Use it for decor instead and stay frustration-free :)
