I'm feeling liberated!!

My scrap buckets are filled once again and I'm feeling....

LIBERATED!!!!
I always get this way after I finish a patterned quilt and I spent a good portion of my "sewing Sunday" just looking at books and admiring my fabric stash!
Sometimes I still think I'm finding my quilting "style". I mean seriously, as along with feeling "so liberated" I was also thinking of making a Kim Diehl quilt for our master bedroom! (I am a total Gemini !!!) But that's me, always thinking of two projects at once...actually three as I also loaded one of the vintage Sun Bonnet Sues I've been commissed to quilt onto the quilting frame today.  LOL!!! I geuss that's why I love this hobby of ours so much....unlimited opportunities to be creative and self expressive! (Even if I did spend most the day just admiring the possibilities!)

Anyhoo....I'm grateful for the great week coming up! I only work two days this week (WAHOOOO!!!)....as hubby and I are flying out to visit my parents in Arizona! It's sooooo very odd for us to take a Fall Vacation....but we are way excited!!! Andddd...I literally dusted off my cabin applique and have it packed for the journey! THIS is going to be a winter project FOR SURE!!! You WILL see some progress on this quilt here on the ol' blog this Winter! (Note: my exclamitory commitment there! Yah me!) And my mom and I already have a "date" to visit her local quilt store! I can't wait! It's always fun to see new quilt stores from other parts of the country.

Tuesday Archives theme this week is: WILD things! I'm thinking wild animals, wild...out of the box creative quilting?? I think you guys know me well enough by the letter W, to know I'm pretty liberal with the definitions of my themes. Truly, thanks for having fun with me as we all dig through our archives to rejuvinate old posts every Tuesday. It's ALWAYS fun and inspiring!!
Just know, I'm grateful to all of you who are a part of my virtual quilting community.

  1. I know what you mean about finding your style! I think for the first few years quilting we try so many different things before we settle on our preferred method, colors, styles etc. I'm getting confident with my choices and getting braver to explore and extend. But I still love to use up scraps on messy scrappy quilts that break all the rules and don't fit my current style lol!

  2. Lots of exclamations in this post!! I like to mix it all up too - or it gets boring. I do love scrappy the most, but civil war, traditional, improv, brights, vintage, modern, throw in some stitchery, beads and buttons - its' all good.

Also, having a fabric shopping date with your mum sounds like a great idea.

  5. I think a lot of us do not know what our style is, I get so tempted all the time from things I see others doing. I too have the Liberated book, reminds me I must have anther look at it! Have a lovely time with Mum

  7. Have fun on your trip and I think as soon as we find our "style" it will change so just go along for the ride. Though I do know I don't like applique. :)

  8. Good luck with your liberated quilting! I LOVE this style and can't wait to see your quilt develop! What you described is what I call Quilters ADD. It is actually very humorous how distracted I can become going from one project to the next... all in different styles!!! LOL Enjoy! And enjoy the trip to see your folks!

  10. Hello Val! Congratulations on finding time for a trip. I hope it is as wonderful as you expect it to be. I also hope you get some fun sewing in as you have a project packed and ready to journey with you.

We are two peas in a pod because I also spent some time yesterday dreaming about new projects and looking at books and online photos.

I don't know if I have any wild things. I will have to think about that one. Sorry I have been so busy and absent lately, but I do read your blog.

  11. Sometimes I go to the craft room to see and end up just sitting and planning as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one. :)

  12. I often think my quilting style has a 'split personality' but that's okay, it keeps things interesting! LOL
Have a wonderful and safe trip!

  13. Have a great fall vacation. It's nice to have a few days off work.

As far as quilting, style goes, I think we all change a bit with every quilt we make.
