This week is all about your old Edges and English Paper Piecing posts!

EDGES:

Okay guys, I got this theme off the internet to be quite honest, so with that said, you just go for it. Edges....I don't know, does that mean borders? bindings? LOL!! Oh my inexperience is showing!

ENGLISH PAPER PIECING:

Okay, I also have to admit that Karen who blogs as Faeries and Fibres is the goddess of EPP! Serious, look at this quilt! If  you love to EPP and haven't checked out Karen's blog before, do stop by as you'll truly be inspired. Grab yourself a highlighted button Karen:

ALYofF July Quilty Goals

June was a crazy, wierd month.
But July is upon us and for me, that means a break from teaching and some well deserved R&R. (whew!) My early mornings will be spent leisurely as I take my daily 2-3 mile walks, eat breakfast late, and tend to the lawn and garden chores. (I just love tinkering outside.) My afternoons will find me busy sewing and  keeping cool right here:
Yes, with my buddy Jackson keeping me company.

I plan to complete the following list of goals before we go on a mini vacation with our kids to the mountains at the end of the month(which means Grammy time for me!):

  1. My ALYofF July Goal will be to make a quilt out of my Lucy's Crab Shack Layer pack (Can anyone recommend a quick pattern?) done! See it here.
  2. Quilt for Project Linus done! See it here.
  3. Create some cute thank you notes for school out of fabric scraps. done! See them here.
  4. Oh! And finish my June ALYofF Dog Quilt....LOL! (I'm quilting it this week) done! See it here.

And of course, a habit I come by honestly from my dad, a daily 3:00 ice cream break is always in order and heck, maybe a good book read in-between all the quilting. Our days here in Eastern Oregon (USA) are long right now. It's dawn at 5:00am and dusk at 10:00pm!!! Crazy right! And well, never being one to sit still well, I'm convinced that:
I'm not as rigid in routine as it sounds. If I don't feeling like doing something one day, I don't. But more or less, this is what my summer days look like. So thanks for stopping by and letting me exclaim my July goals to the blogging universe.
With genuine smiles and appreciation,
Val:)

LINKY: 2nd Annual Piggy Bank Savings = Money for Quilting Challenge

July 6th marks Bill and I's 2nd Annual Spare Change Challenge and this year we're inviting you to join us!  In our household it's the water jug vs. the pig:
Last year was our inaugural spare change challenge and you can read all about my penny pinching ways and our annual "counting of coins" in last years post by clicking right here.  Bill did save more than me last year, and unfortunately, this morning we went to one of those Coin Star machines at the grocery store and cashed in and this year was no different. Looser (me) had to buy the winner ice-cream! LOL!
  • His jug was full and came to $102.90  in coins with twenty one dollar bills. Grand total of: $122.90!
  • My little piggy came to a grand total of 39.90 in coins. But! I had $45.00 in bills. You know what that means: $84.90 for fabric shopping!!! Whoot! Woo!  (I plan to save double the amount this next time around!)
  • In one year of saving change and throwing in one and five dollar bills every now and then, we had a grand total of $206.52! Serious!

But! Now it's YOUR turn to join the Piggy Bank Challenge!

This Linky is open until July 20th.
Val's Quilting Studio

You know what they say:  a penny saved is a penny earned.
I'm excited to extend the challenge to all of you this year and looking forward to seeing who links up!
  1. All's you have to do is create a post this week sharing your "piggy bank".
  2. Include your goal of what you'd like to purchase with your savings come this time next year.
  3. Include the linky button above to help spread the word to all your followers.
  4. Return and link your post here anytime this week until July 20th
  5. Start "penny pinching".
  6. Next year we'll  all empty our piggy banks on July 6th and create a post exclaiming our totals, share what quilty purchase we're going to make and link up here once again to celebrate! (Don't worry, I'll send emails to all who link up this week with reminders.)

With smiles,
Val:)

My June ALYoF is a WIP

Yep! Too much going on right now that when I do get a moment, I'm too exhausted to sew even the simplest 6 inch squares together. My June ALYofF is my most current WIP.
On that note, today is my last day of teaching summer school!!!!!!!!!! (oops...too many exclamation points?? LOL!) This pile of wonky stars will be turned into a flimsy soon enough. We're expecting triple digits temperatures (Which don't even hit till late afternnoon) but does make for great afternoon sewing in my cool basement studio.
Curious if  your sewing habits change with the seasons too??
With smiles,
Val:)
