Winter Inspiration

I see "applique" inspiration here, even a little wool "play".
(Click here for my Grow Your BLog Giveway!)
We awoke to another 6 inches of snow (we love it!) and I found myself inspired as a looked at all my birdhouses balancing inches of fluffy snow. I "see" a future applique design of winter birdhouses, perhaps done with wool?  Or perhaps a Folk Art design of four birdhouses, each representing a different season??? These photos will inspire some future sketching for sure, especially as I being to play with more wool.
And I couldn't resist snapping a picture of this little guy....
Anyhooo...it was so nice to awake to a window of inspiration, especially knowing
I have no where to go for the next two days as the snow continues to accumulate.  Here's a peek at...

My Weekend To-Do List:

1. Shovel Snow (It's a good workout!)done
2. Laundry/Change Bedsdone
3.  Work on RSC pinks and post later today. (oh well)
4. Organize and start my Sue Spargo BOMdone
5. Create a wool sampler to practice & share my creative stitching process here on my blog. (Our Sue Spargo BOM is an unpublished pattern, thus we can not share photos of our blocks on social network sites.)done
5. Sew my Crazy Hearts together.
6. Prep Crazy Heart Tutorial
7. Enjoy some good wine, food  done and a soak in the hot tub...
it's STILL snowing, so no hot tub for me.
8. Shovel Snow AGAIN!!!!!!  done

Val:)

My I-SPY quilt is growing

On my design wall is an  I-SPY QUILT I started for our new grandson this past Fall.

Thanks to the support of fellow bloggers Marianne at The Adventurous Quilter and Dona at Grateful 4 Quilting  my I-Spy WIP is growing:
I need about 75 more squares as I want to have five rows on each side of the heart.

And with little guy just smiling away as he sat grabbing at all of  Grandma's scraps,
I was too distracted to even think of cutting any new 4 inch squares.
My oldest daughter and I did have fun discussing what backing to use and sorting through scraps in search of more squares. (With no help from this little guy as you can see! LOL!)  BTW: She settled on using a red minky fabric for the backing of the quilt...oh how cuddly, soft that will be for this little cuddle bug of ours!
Don't you just love happy babies. His parents are naturals!
I can't wait to get sewing on this quilt...I miss them already.
But still smiling, grateful for their visit,
"Grandma" Val:)

ALYof F: Feb. Goal/Crazy Heart Quilt

I've always wanted a quilt made of hearts.
I've been making these crazy hearts over  past few years.
(Click here for my Grow Your BLog Giveway!)
So last night, I got them out of their pile and onto the design wall.  (YAH!)
It's time to get this UFO done!
I plan to get these blocks finished ,the top pieced together, and have it quilted and wrapped up with a snazzy binding finish by month's end. Annnddd, I will also create a tutorial post on how to make these cute little hearts.
Warning: You'll get addicted...they are so fun!
Happy February sewing for sure!

With smiles,
Val:)

Super Bowl Sunday Sewing

Soooo I thought this was going to be me today:

Yet, instead, this is happily me...

...with the world's cutest SeaHawks fan!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone.
With smiles!
Grandma Val:)

Sunday Morning...

I slept in this morning which means (8:15 am). My husband works Sundays right now, so I usually find myself greeting the day with a cup of coffee, hopping around the internet, visiting your blogs and seeing what everyone else has been up to. I stumbled across The Scattered Life Collective and thought it would be a fun way to start out my day.
This is me at this moment:
CURRENT TIME: 8:55am

OUT THE WINDOW: Blue sky with dark, fluffy clouds, with a hint of morning sun. The world outside covered in morning frost.

LISTENING TO: Sunday Morning on the TV in the kitchen, the creaks of an old house awaking on a winter morning, a train suddenly interrupting this morning quiet with it's rumblings by.

ON THE MENU TODAY: Breakfast: Cinnamon rolls with eggs along with good conversation with our youngest daughter who's home for the weekend. Super Bowl Eats: Crock pot of little weenies & meatballs, vegetable tray, chips, beer and Seattle Seahawk decorated cupcakes with the whole family, as our oldest and her family arrive this afternoon with our little grandson!!! (I can't wait!)

HAPPY MOMENTS THIS WEEK:
  • Long email exchange with my mom
  • The warmth of the sun on my face (finally)
  • A phone call from a dear friend wanting to make plans for a "girl weekend".
  • Watching children play
  • Big hugs from little people
  • Toothless smiles (10 teeth dropped from the mouths of my 2nd graders in Jan.)
  • Friday night in the studio with my husband as he works on a stain glass window and I sew:

  • Kids home for the weekend
  • Afternoon walks with Jackson
  • A counter full of  pink RSC scraps waiting...
  •  Good food and good wine:

I'm linking this post to  The Scattered Life Collective. This was fun. Give it a try if ya find yourself with a quiet Sunday morning at hand.
With smiles,
Val:)
