14/15 Saturday Sampler Finished!

Don't' ask me why it took  so long to quilt my 2014/15 Saturday Sampler but today I got it done.
With it's 10" blocks it measures 43"x 56"and would be a nice lap quilt or perfect for a little girl.

I used this Lisa's Lace Pantograph in white thread to accent the whimsical flowers in Deb Strain's  Bloomin' Fresh fabric line and with it's bright colors it's sure to make someone happy!

The back is just as fun....like a garden of flowers trimmed with it's binding of turquoise polka dots.

Though I'm sure Jackson would gladly keep this one for himself, I'll hold on to this bright and happy quilt awhile longer in hopes to find a special recipient to pass it onto...hopefully sooner than later.
Wishing you a great weekend,

....to: Cnythia who blogs at: Quilting is More Fun Than Housework!!!
You are July's linky winner of a 15.00 gift certificate to Fabric N Quilts.
(Coincidentially, it was your scrappy link, #20, under our Scrappy Quilt theme!!)
(Watch your email for the gift code!!)

Sooo...How is the Winner Chosen?

Here's what I did:
I counted the number of total links in July. We had 180!! Mr. Random chose number 92.
I then started at the first link on  July 7th and counted forward.
On July 7th were numbers 1-52. Then, on July 14th the first link was counted as #53 and the last link was #71. So on July 21st, the first link was actually #72 and I counted until I hit #92.
And because NO ONE is a loser...EVERYONE who linked gets a 5% discount to Fabric N Quilts.
Please just email me at vworksofheart@gmail.com and let me know one of the dates you linked and I will reply with the promo code.

Thank you for rejuvinating your old posts here!
I know "digging" through our archives sometimes takes more time, thus I'm grateful to Shannon for coming aboard and supporting my idea of giving you guys a little extra incentive/reward. I mean, serously, what's a party without a little "door prize" right!
So, let's have the fun continue with today's theme:

SAMPLER QUILTS:

This Saturday I will pick up the final month of my 2014-15 Saturday Sampler that my quilty friend and I have enjoyed attending this past year:
I continue to love this Bloomin' Fresh line by Deb Strain.
It's been rewarding to play with different blocks and gradually see my points, seams, piecing  and even color/fabric combining improve. (Though I admittably, reworked a couple.) I'm sure many of you have done some samplers, thus, I'm curious what you like most about them??

Which do you prefer?

Do you like working with smaller 6" blocks or larger 12" blocks?
Last September I joined a Saturday Sampler with my quilty friend, giving no thought to the fact that we'd be making our blocks for a charm pack....until it came to bringing my sampler home each month and I found myself NOT happily sewing. I know, probably wierd, but the 6" blocks became increasingly frustrating for me. They don't turn out quite right. Then I'm always disappointed. I also started to not like my "busy" background. What's a girl to do?
..
Well, this girl, decided to change things up. I switched to the 12" block pattern included on our patterns&changed my background to a bright white fabric with a textured swirl design:
I love this Bloomin' Fresh fabric by Deb Strain.
I'm having so much more fun now. Everything is easy and relaxing now. The cutting is easy. The sewing relaxing. So to answer my own question...I'm definitely a 12"block girl.

I love my new blocks. I'm reminding myself that this IS a sampler. So along with playing with block sizes, I find myself  learning to contrast colors and patterns in the fabrtics...balancing solids, fabric patterns and contrasting colors. I already threw the other two 6" blocks away (LOL!...told ya they frustrated me!) and will probably use these "survivors" on the back. But I'm rejuvinated for my monthly Saturday Sampler. I have three more blocks to "enlarge" this week...then I'll be all caught up. I love that I'm learning and having fun on this little quilty journey we're all on. I can't wait to get the other three blocks done after work today.

Dec./Jan. Sat. Sampler

I'm feeling my sewing "mojo" coming back as I got caught up on my Saturday Samplers today. Whew! These are just 6 1/2" blocks and if you've been following me for any amount of time, you know how much I don't like "little". But I love this Deb Strain fabric line I chose and even more, the Saturday every month I get to spend with a quilty friend as we venture together to our Saturday Sampler meeting. I love getting into a quilt store. I love seeing what every one else is up to. We have fun shopping afterwards and going to lunch. We even signed up for a new class: Metro Rings. Can't remember the last time I took a quilting class. Next month, I'll be learning how to sew curves! Should I be scared?

Sat. Sampler Catch-up

Finally getting caught up on my Saturday Samplers. So today, that's what I'm up to...off to get my December block and lunch with a quilty friend.

November

I almost redid this block due it's many imperfections, but am glad I didn't.
Tommorrow is my sew day and I can't wait!! I'm going to work on my ALYofF layer cake quilt with Hallmark Christmas movies on as I sew! I might not even get out of my jammies!! So, with that said, what are you up to this weekend?
With smiles,
V:)

Sept. Sat. Sampler

Last week my friend texted asking if I wanted to start a Saturday Sampler at one of our favorite Quilt Stores that's in the next town. (It's only a 20 minute drive away) and I replied: "You bet!" We picked out one charm pack and a yard of background fabric when we arrived and the plan is to make a 6"block each month.
I couldn't resist picking out Bloomin' Fresh by Deb Strain:

Here's my first 6" block finished:

And well, since I haven't been in a quilt store in what seems like forever and the ladies were so organized with their presentation, I fell in love with one of their finishing kits and bought the whole Deb Strain Bloomin' Fresh Kit to finish my blocks later:

The panel came in three color ways of the blue, green or red. I choose the green with my oldest daughter in mind. The only thing missing is a few yards of extra large ric-rak which I'll pick up next month! SO happy!
So there ya go...I'll post my block and the pattern the third Saturday of each month.

Happy Saturday!
With Smiles,
Val:)
