6th Annual Piggy Bank Challenge BEGINS!

Many of you are not only familiar with the water jug vs the pig competition that goes on in our household, but have now been a part of it for the past five years!!
Click the picture to read more!
It started our innocent enough when five years ago I bought this little silver piggy bank to collect laundry change. Well, a year later, he was full and I cashed in at $102.45! I, of course, put my new found "savings" to good use and stocked up on fabric! So fun!!

Well, once my husband found out how much I saved, he started his own "bank of change". But also read somewhere that if you throw in a dollar or even a five dollar bill once in awhile, you can literally double your savings.

So here we are six years later sharing continuing the challenge with you.

Create a post to join/rejoin us for this year's

the Piggy Bank Challenge!

Piggy Bank Challenge Mid-Point Check

I was actually "digging into" my piggy bank a week or so ago to gather some change to play cards with my hubby...when I suddenly realized we have already hit the mid-point of our Piggy Bank Savings for this year. And while I realize I'm not suppose to be taking money out, I did replace it plus another two dollars when I won a few card games. LOL!

Since then , I've been more intententional of gathering my change and plunking it in.

It's that time of year when we finally empty our piggy banks and splurge on something quilty!

This year in our household: I'm the WINNER!

Barely!!  He saved $116.77 and I saved $118.41. And truth be told...he had most of his in change. But I was good at tucking dollar bills this year, so he gets to buy me, the winner, the ice-cream!
So what did we splurge on?
He found himself a great deal on golf clubs and got himself a never used set off Craigslist for $120.
They are just what he needed to enjoy golfing with his Father and Son-in-Laws.

Me? I couldn't resist joining Lori Holt's Bee Happy Sew Along coming up in August.
I'm soooo excited as I can't remember the last time I bought a yummy pack of fabric like this.
The quilt will measure 72"x80" when finished and I got a good discount by pre-ordering through a nearby Quilt Store. Which meant I only had to add a little bit more money "to the pot" to get things purchased. YEAH!! (Click right HERE  to read more about this Fall Sew Along.)

Piggy Bank Challenge Mid-Point Check-in

How are ya doing??
I'm doing pretty good, but was impressed when my mom showed me her "pumpkin" full of change! (Talk about nostalgic...our girls and I made this coffee can pumpkin during our ol' Girl Scout days!)She's doing great and keeps it right on her desk and adds to it weekly.

Hubby found this cute little bank in the clearance isle today and knows our
grand guy and I will have fun painting it during our Spring Break Grammy Camp.
Might as well get him in the habit of saving while he's young. (smiles!)

So over the past three years, between us, we have saved a modest $600.00.
I also found out my mom joined us and saved herself about $35.00 that she'll use for knitting.

So... Now it's time to join/rejoin the Piggy Bank Challenge!

LINKY: 3nd Annual Piggy Bank Savings = Money for Quilting Challenge

Click the picture to read more!

Even in this modern day of credit/debit cards, I'm still a cash spending gal. But this a habit I've obviously had for a long time. Here's a picture of  my very first piggy bank:
Serious! I use to love how it was the color of a penny and shaped like a shoe. I use to really love that I needed a "key" to open the bottom. Now THAT in itself  made saving money fun! This little shoe secured my babysitting money and allowance away from my sister. LOL!! Click here to read what I bought with my first "piggy bank" savings...I'm still smiling as I sit here thinking about my teenage self in that previous post!

THIS YEAR:

Welll...in our household this year, hubby was the winner!
He had $110.57 saved in change and $7.00 saved in bills. Grand Total: $117.57

I on the other hand, only saved $33.80 in change and $19.00 in bills. Grand Total: $52.80
Enough to treat treating myself to one of these:
A red Zirkel Magnetic Pin Organizer!
(Hmmmm...and I'll probably use the other $35.00 for fabric!)
NOW it's your turn to share!
Last year 23 of you linked your penny pinching goals and even more joined through email after the linky closed. Well, today is the day to empty those that piggy banks my friends and create a post to link here with us exclaiming your total amount saved and share what quilty purchase you're going to make!
