It's Birthday Quilt Time!

Time sure flies when we have Grand kiddos doesn't it!
Our oldest grand guy continues to request a birthday quilt each year. This year he actually picked out all the fabrics for this one. These are in honor of the fact that we've watched every dolphin movie made for kids and have made a pinky shake that someday we are going to swim with the dolphins to celebrate our birthdays!

I found the perfect dolphin pantograph.

His choice to use a minky backing that looks like "water" makes this one an especially cozy lap quilt.
Happy Happy NINTH Birthday buddy!
With hugs and smiles,
Meme:)

Birthday Quilts Ready to Gift!

Not one...

...but two birthday quilts.
These were quick and easy strip quilts that happily filled our grand guys request of  a
birthday quilt in fabric of his favorite football team. I used a soft flannel backing and
made them to be twin and crib size to fit the beds at their dad's house.

Hard to believe these two are going to be four and eight!

These are their traditional quilt labels and I finished the quilts with a fun football pantograph.

More quilty hugs...
...for the two that call me Meme.
With Smiles.

Busy Binding....with a little help!

My grand guys birthday quilts are almost done!

I'm busy sewing the binding...and Jackson seems to think these are for him?

Such a funny pup!

Who by the way just turned twelve!
Finished quilt pictures coming soon!
Hope this post finds all my quilty friends doing well.
Sending smiles your way! V:)

A Super Hero Finish

This is a pretty "busy" finish...but with two jelly rolls and a few 1/4 yards of superhero prints I was able to quickly put together this array of Super Hero fabrics for our grand-guys 5th birthday quilt! His two requests: "Meme it has to have Captain America and Spiderman annnnddddd be long enough to cover my feet! My feet fall out of last year's quilt now!"

It finished measuring 53"x 68" and should be big enough this upcoming winter
as he keeps his feet warm under it's soft, fleece backing of superheros.
(Notice our traditional "birthday" label! Five already!!)
I will tell ya, I've never used fleece as a backing before and really like the extra layer of cuddly warmth it gives the quilt. I only had to raise the foot a little on my long-arm and it was easy-peasy to quilt. As you can see, it was not only big enough to cover his feet but, Jackson LOVED it as well!!!
Happy Birthday buddy!

Spiderman Quilt Gifted

Sometimes I create a quilt without really thinking about the process. This one started with a sketch. I pieced it. Sewed it....and then found myself  a little worried when it came to the quilting. It's a crib size quilt and I really wanted the effect of that big web, but worried about the unquilted spaces.
All came out fine. For the first time ever, I bought a premade binding but that came out fine too.

As soon as our grand guy opened it...he ran and put it on his bed....with his Spiderman pillow.
He has slept with it every night since!

He can even be caught wrapped up in it while watching TV.
Sorry about no Tuesday Archives this week. The kids have been moving into their new home and they've had no internet until tonight. YEAH!! Can you imagine, moving into a new house the same time you have a new baby! ARG!!! Speaking of  new baby, he's our Thanksgiving blessing for sure.
He's a tiny guy and very precious. He NEVER cries. (Really!)
Anyhoo....thank you all for your wonderful comments. I've read them all on my phone in-between, well, life right now, and you encourage me and make me smile. THANK YOU for your bloggy friendship and support. I appreciate everyone one of you in this transition.

A peek at some quilting...

I got both of these quilts finished this past weekend:
Spiderman is all "webbed". Arg....what was I thinking when I layered flannel, batting annndddd a thick fleece. Oh this will most likely become our grand-guys "new" favorite quilt...but I had a lot of thread breaks quilting this one....but I finally got him done.

After spidey was done, I ran my dinosaur pantograph to finish our soon-to-be-born little guys quilt.
I love that it coordinates with his big brother's dinosaur quilt.
I did machine stitch the binding onto both of them for a quick finish and they are now wrapped and
awaiting to be gifted later this week. At which time I'll be sure to share them finished and in the hands of my grand guys. (That's so wierd to write....grand "guys!"). As you can imaigine, I start this week with butterflies of anticipation and excitement in my stomach as we await the upcoming delivery later this week. Stay tuned! And, thanks for  your well wishes and for stopping by.

It's SPIDERMAN!

I wanted to create an original "super hero" quilt for my grand guys birthday quilt this year.
He and I always have fun playing "Spiderman" with silly string and I wanted to capture that memory. I searched the internet for ideas and found none. When while on a walk I thought to use a color sheet.

I used my projector at school and enlarged it to the size I wanted for the quilt.

I then traced and cut all my pieces.
T
Then using the livingroom window as my "lightbox"

...I taped the pattern and my background fabric to the window and...

...with my Roxanne Basting Glue, positioned and secured all the pieces. I also marked the web for quilting. (Of which I ordered metallic thread for! Won't that be cool!!)

Here's what he looks like all sewn together:
This one is going to be fun to quilt. Stay tuned!

A Dino Happy Boy!

Yes....he loved his new dinosaur birthday quilt!

It went outside...

...and all the dinosaurs got hugs and kisses too.

It was dragged around during a game of chase...

...and as the day wound down, it was used to keep him cozy...

...and warm as our newly-three-year-old finally fell asleep.
It was a fun day and even better that such a little guy appreciates his homemade quilts so very much.
That in itself makes our quilty hearts smile huh!
Wishing everyone a great Monday.
