This week's theme is: Tonals

Do batiks count as a tonal? I hope so because today I'm reminded how pretty they turn out as I rejuvenate this quilt from my own archives.  This was one of my very first quilts made for our  youngest daughter back in 2012. She has such a good eye for color and I'm now inspired to dig out a kit I bought to make my husband a similar quilt using neutral tones.

I'm also reminded  how much fun this one was to quilt as each square got it's own sun motif.

 My favorite sun is the one wearing sunglasses on the blue block!

I continue to love the bright batiks against the neutral tones and expect it's well worn by now.

Nov. OMG: Batik Finish

I met my November goal with time to spare this month! 

I even met up with my friend whom I intended this quilty hug for right before the holiday.

She was genuinely touched by the use of my Breast Cancer pantograph and soft minky backing.

She leaves this weekend for her six weeks of radiation and sadly, due to the stage of her breast cancer, she found out she will have to endure six months of chemo afterwards. If she ends up getting a port I will definitely be getting her one of Carole's Port Softies. As a cancer survivor myself, I'm so grateful to have had the time to visit and allowed the opportunity to give her hope and support.

Nov. OMG Batik Progress

I had to take advantage of this sunny afternoon to snap a picture of my batik flimsy.
(As the morning found our neighborhood hidden in fog)

Fall is quickly coming to an end around here and if you look closely at our grass, you can see we aerated the yard today. (Okay hubby did while I sewed....but you get what I mean). But! This does mean I am done mowing for the year!!! I'm on my way to JoAnne's to purchase the minky backing I want to use to finish this flimsy.  I then plan to take advantage of this beautiful, sunny 58 degree afternoon and go for a long walk with good ol' Jackson. Then hope to get this one loaded on the long-arm. Hope your day is filled with a little window of sunshine and sewing as well.

November OMG-Batik Lap Quilt

I won this quilt kit for participating in the 2014 ALYofF. The pattern is designed by Amanda Konarske for Honey, Bunny and Doll. I dug it our of my "kit" pile as I finally found the perfect recipient for it. A dear work friend started our school year with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Now, with surgery behind here, she starts six weeks of radiation after the Thanksgiving holiday. 

I plan to get this finished and gifted for my November One Monthly Goal.  

Luckily I have a long three day weekend coming up, hubby has some long work shifts, because  I need to get 'er done in like two and half weeks! Luckily it easy sewing. I plan to back it with a soft, cuddly minky and quilt it using my breast cancer ribbon pantograph. It will end up being the perfect lap size quilt measuring 45" x 72". Okay...well, that's what I'm up to guys.

On the Design Wall....

...from a stack of triangles to a rainbow of diamond batiks!

It think it took me longer to get these all laid out on the design wall!

(I finally had to stop moving squares around, as you can keep that up forever...LOL!)

This week will find me enjoying some after work sewing as I get these rows sewn together.

This will  finish as a 45" x 72" lap size quilt that I have very special plans for...

Mini Twister Wallhanging

Sorting through college daughter's things, I came across this little wallhanging I made her one Christmas. These batiks are so "her" and I love that it gets to hang in our house for the summer. (As she was pretty adamant that it was only on "loan"). (love that!)

I'm behind on all my sewing. I haven't even looked at my yellows for the June RSC and my ALYoF June Goal still sits exactly where it's been. But that's okay! I have five days of summer school left then watch me sew. And so far, it looks like I have a sewing weekend coming up, which means I just may meet those June goals yet! Yah!

This week is all about the BACKS of our quilts and everything and anything made of BATIKS!

Sometimes I like to think of the back of a quilt as a "surprise". Like this back I made to finish for my daughter's 4-H quilt.  She made the top as one of her club projects and a few years I came across it in the attic and had fun making a quilt back that included her name and even her club t-shirt!

And Batiks....aren't they the most wonderful colors when put together!

This is my only quilt made with Batiks, so admittedly,  I'm really looking forward to seeing what you have made. I want to create more quilts using batiks!
