One More Charity Finish...

One more finish for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project.

 This quilt top was sent to me from a fellow quilter to finish for the project.  

I love the rainbow of Kaffe fabrics against the crisp white background don't you! 

I found a purple patterned backing and had enough left over to use it for the binding too.

The rainbow of happy colors reminded me of a flower garden so I used a pantograph of butterflies fluttering along for the quilting pattern using a white King Tut Superior thread: 

I plan to machine sew the binding down tonight, pop the quilt into the wash, then it's on it's way to: .

Nov. OMG: Batik Finish

I met my November goal with time to spare this month! 

I even met up with my friend whom I intended this quilty hug for right before the holiday.

She was genuinely touched by the use of my Breast Cancer pantograph and soft minky backing.

She leaves this weekend for her six weeks of radiation and sadly, due to the stage of her breast cancer, she found out she will have to endure six months of chemo afterwards. If she ends up getting a port I will definitely be getting her one of Carole's Port Softies. As a cancer survivor myself, I'm so grateful to have had the time to visit and allowed the opportunity to give her hope and support.

I remember Kate, who blogs at Life In Pieces, making this wonderful jigsaw rainbow last year, and after a bit of searching through her archives...I found it! This is it finished as a flimsy and I'm hoping you'll like up your finished post Kate, for if I remember correctly, you made this one for your daughter.

I know many of us rainbow posts, so I'm going to keep today's intro short. I'm off to search through my own archives as well and you can all start sharing. It will be great to have our rainbow inspiration collected in one spot don't ya think. PS: I'm also working on creating a page that will be a directory of all our past Tuesday Archives themes. I think it will become a quick reference tool for us to use to revisit some of  those old themes full of  linked inspiration!

H2H Finale: Rainbow Hexagons

It's hard to believe it was almost two years ago that I emptied my buckets of scrappy strips...

...and made this rainbow of hexagons: 

It's fun to see them finally put together into a quilt!

(I like the solid centers much better too.)

This quilt has been so much fun to create and it makes my heart smile knowing it's soon to be on it's way to be part of  Sarah's H2H Charity Challenge.  

 

I think this quilt will make the perfect Happy Chemo hug with it's soft red flannel backing and        cute polka-dot binding don't ya think?!

It's also the perfect lap size quilt finishing at 40"x60". (At least that's what I thought while I got to use it while binding it this week.) And I have to say, this Daisy May Pantograph is quickly becoming one of my favorite patterns to quilt. 

 Are ya wondering where my photo bombing Jackson is? I was too actually, until I spied him nearby, but I geuss too busy with all the Spring activities in the yard today to interrupt me.
(I mean be part of the photo shoot! LOL!!)

So it's time to get this one in the wash then packed up to send to a Happy Chemo recipient.

It's a soft rainy day here and with still 13 1/2 days of school left, I geuss I better get myself ready for work.(Can ya tell I'd rather stay home and sew. LOL!) Hope your Friday is great!

H2H Rainbow Hexi's

After playing with these on the design wall , then most recently crawling around on the floor moving them around like they were a puzzle, this is what I decided for my rainbow hexi's:

I was beginning to worry this quilt may be too small, but I actually think this will be a perfect lap size quilt for a Happy Chemo recipient. Ya know, not too big to carry to appointments, but large enough to cover their legs while sitting during treatments. I'm also thinking of some FMQ fun I'm going to have once I start quilting it! (Think butterflies in a varigated rainbow thread!!) As for me, I can not resist the beautiful spring afternoon we are having so I'm off to get Jackson leashed up and headed out for a long walk. After which, I'll start sewing these rows together. Hope your weekend has been nice and you got in some sewing too!

Stay-cation Day 7: My Rainbow Pinwheel Quilt is FINISHED!

My Rainbow Pinwheel Quilt is done!! YAH!!!!! There is so much I like about this quilt...yet, with that said, it's one I admittably wish I had a little girl to gift it to. As I finished the binding and flowers I found myself daydreaming of a future grand-daughter falling in love with it, begging me to take it home. (And of course, I'd say: " absolutely!") Until then, this quilt filled my love of polka-dots! It was so much fun to create....

This quilt measures 52"x72".

Like one reader previously commented, this quilt is like a bowl full of jellybeans!

I think she is right! So let me share some quilty treats with you. 

First, the flowers! I've always wanted to do this "flower technique" on a pinwheel quilt and it seemed perfected "fitted" for this quilt.The flowers are made using two layers of raw cut fabric rounds, then those are clipped along the edge every 1/2" or so. Finally, add a yoyo flower and button and you got it! This the what the flowers look like before they are washed:

Don't you just love how crinkly and a bit frayed they are!!

The next treat is the quilting.

I couldn't resist using my cupcake pantograph:

 Especially because this is what the back looks like:

I was disappointed to not have enough of the cupcake fabric for the backing. But this entire quilt was made from my stash, so I kept auditoning pieces from my stash until I found that white polka-dot fabric in the center. (Which corrdinates with the sprinkles on the cupcakes.)

The last treat is the "made fabric" that's in the pinwheels. The leftovers were used to create those fun circles I added to the back. I think both the front and back now have that  fun, whimsical "feel" that compliment eachother!

And if by chance you are wondering where Jackson was this whole "photo shot"...well, I geuss my being home has disrupted his nap schedule and he is not "into" morning photo shoots (As we usually take quilt pictures later in the day after school/work): (BTW, He is actually yawning and strethcing in this picture below. My husband thought he was barking...seriously, what a personality this guy has!!! )

 I can't wait to see what the future holds for it. Need less to say, my "stay-cation" has allowed for some great sewing time. Thanks so much for stopping by and seeing what I'm up to. Three Scrappy Projects!

I'm always so inspired by Cynthia who blogs at: Quilting Is More Fun Than  Housework. I visit her Scrap Palooza Quilt Gallery often and am motivated weekly by her Oh Scrap! Linky. So imagine my surprise when SHE asked if I'd highlight some of my scrappy projects!! Whoot! Woo! You bet! Thank you Cynthia! So I started 2015 with no "real" quilting goals, yet it is beginning to look like this is going to be my year to get some rainbow scrappy quilts done! Yep! Upon creating this post, I realize I have three very bright WIP that I plan to use Cynthia's weekly linky to motivate me to get them done!

Project #1: My Rainbow Hexagons!

About a year ago I emptied these cute buckets of scrappy stripes and turned them into...

...this rainbow of hexagons! They are back on the design wall.

I'm busy "auditioning" what color I'll put them together with??

 (I don't like the white.) Any suggestions?

I also have a set of red that aren't on the design wall...yet.

Project #2: My Rainbow Neighborhood!

I started these scrappy dolls and houses for my RSC13 challenge last year. I can not tell you how much fun I had each month digging through my scrap boxes and putting them together "free style". They too are back on the design wall. I plan to fill in the gaps and get them sewn together all wonky like this. I'm then going to add some appliqued flowers, trees and who knows what else to create a fun little neighborhood! (I think I need to add a Jackson next to one of the houses too!! LOL!) Oh I can't wait to get back to these. I just really enjoy adding scraps of ribbon, rik-rac, buttons and lace and well, pretty much anything else laying around the sewing room to these!

Project #3: "Made Fabric" Pinwheels

Oh! I had so much fun dumping my bin of scraps back in February and creating that "made fabric"you see in the pinwheels above! Have you ever done that? It's so liberating to just dump your box of scraps and go for it!

It's easy to say, my rainbow stash of scraps is depleted after creating these three quilt tops. Now it's time to get them done!
