And thank you to everyone who stopped by my little blog spot and entered the give-away. It was interesting to read everyone's comments and learn about the variety of things we do to entertain ourselves while we quilt. Many of us prefer the peace and quiet with only the hum of our sewing machine to keep us company while others enjoy a good podcast or movie. Either way, sewing certainly provides a healthy creative outlet for us doesn't it. 

Strip Quilt Secrets Blog Hop & Give-Away!

Diane who blogs at Butterfly Threads Quilting makes the most wonderful scrappy quilts! I'm always inspired by her combination of bright colors and fabric patterns to design such a variety of patterns. When she published her first book: Scrap Book Secrets, I devoured it, reading it cover to cover and taking note, especially as I read her chapter of Quilt Making Basics. And now she's done it again!!

BOOK TWO!

 

I quickly volunteered to be part of her book release blog hop as I've had this tote of 30's repro fabric strips that I had cut into two inch strips about five years ago to to stitch English Paper Pieced Hexagons. When my book arrived, I literally dumped the whole tote out, mixed up the large variety of colors and patterns....

...and started just grabbing and sewing the strips together.

After a few email exchanges with Diane and then referring to the index of the quilts by strip size ranging from 1 1/2"-3 1/2" found at the back of her book, I decided to make her Vortex pattern as most of my strips were already two inches wide...exactly what the Vortex pattern called for.

So I got busy sewing strips...which as you can imagine provided some easy chain piecing.

I chose black as my block centers and cornerstones. I found the block assembly quick with Diana's easy to follow, step by step directions and am learning to perfect my partial seam. BTW, Diane also offers four alternative quilt sizes (crib, twin full/queen and king) and a coloring sheet for each of the fifteen patterns included in the book.  I love that! So much bang for your buck!

Participation in our linky party has decreased immensely, mostly from what I have observed to be a parrallel decrease in people who have chosen to continue blogging. Feb. OMG Valentine Flimsy Finish

Inspired by Carole's quilts for the California Thomas Fire victims, I used the Perkiomen Valley Block Pattern that was posted on the Ventura Quilt Guild Website to destash and finish my Valentine fabrics into a cozy 72" x 72" quilt top for my February OMG. This is destash project #2...done!

I grabbed a quick picture of my Feb. OMG finish before work today. We had another couple inches of  that light, fluffy kind of snow last night meaning this would get way too wet if I tried to take pictures outside today. But, I wanted to get my finish posted for the linky.  I'll be sure to show much better pictures once it's quilted and the binding is on. But I sure do like it!

I do however, have this cute pile of 4 1/2" squares left-over. It includes 55 light and 20 dark patterns as seen above. I thought about adding two more rows to this top but decided to add a flannel backing and use it as a comfy winter couch quilt. Okay. Honey why is this quilt all ragged on the edges??

Huh? OMG!! This quilt has been sitting on the couch in my studio for the past 2 1/2 years!! I never realized that the binding wasn't sewn down until I heard that question from my husband.

Seriously, the binding was on...just not sewn down. How does that happen? Anyhoooo....I packed it up and it provided the perfect hand sewing this past two weeks while I was at our daughter's and I had a homemade quilt to sleep under every night. Doesn't get better than that does it. And now to celebrate this long overdue finish, I pulled some dotty fabric remnants from my stash and paired them with this Mary E. magnetic notepad as a Happy Mail Give-away for one of you.
