A big thank you to Michelle who blogs at Crayon Box Quilt Studio for organizing her Kate Spain Charm Swap - the Christmas Edition! I'll get better "quilty" pictures once this is all quilted but I was kinda anxious to share how wonderful the variety of prints came together and
was able to catch this wintery picture right at dusk:
I thouroughly enjoyed the easy sewing of chain piecing this past week and was kinda surprised how big this quilt actually ended up. I used 224 charms (I had two spots in Michelle's swap) and the quilt measures 64"x72". I picked up some red minky for the backing during all the fabric sales this past weekend and am looking forward to quilting with minky for the very first time. (Any warnings about loading it on the long-arm please do share.) Anyhoo...I wanted to create this post to thank everyone who participated in the swap. I don't have a local sewing group and for reasons like this, I'm just so grateful for our virtual community. I'm so happy with my cheery Christmas Quilt. I can't wait to quilt it.
Wow! It is beautiful Val. I have no advice on the long arm but I do look forward to seeing what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
I love your cheery Christmas quilt! Red kinky sounds like the perfect backing. It will be so cuddly!
ReplyDeleteI popped into feedly and was greeted by this wonderful Christmas quilt top! I love love square block quilts. I can't wait to see it quilted. Hope you had a wonderful Thankshiving. Out of our 14 guests, 9 got food poising. Starting to feel better and enjoying our new puppy. Have a blessed holiday season. Hugs
ReplyDeletePS come visit me on Instagram, I would love it!
ReplyDeletecertainly a lovely quilt for Christmas, sorry can not help with long arm, cannot even quilt with an ordinary machine but still trying to!
ReplyDeleteI've recently seen someone use red Minky on a quilt and it bled, just a heads up.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think I'll prewash the minky.....just that explosion of red worries me a bit. :)
DeleteLove, love, love this quilt top, Val. Gorgeous colours and gorgeous patterns filled with oodles of Christmas cheer!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheerful scrappy holiday quilt! No advice on minky, I've never used it.
ReplyDeleteThis is looking soooo good, anxious to see how you quilt it .
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I'm still working on a drawer full of dated Christmas fabric that I'm going to integrate into a new Christmas quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! I want it!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks terrific Val. I love charm square swaps they are great fun but I've never participated in a Christmas swap!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful Val - so cheery and bright! Definitely a great swap. I love blogland too for that great meeting of the minds.
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! I love how cheerful it is. As for the minky, be prepared for little fibers to work up through the needle holes and just try not to stretch it. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I really love how this turned out and can't wait to see the all done photos. I'm glad you joined in the swap this time and you can probably bet that I'll be doing at least one next year.
