I Heart BABY Quilts

Sometimes some easy-peasy sewing quickly rejuvenates the ol' soul on whats been a cold, foggy morning. This little cuddle quilt will now be moved to my Winter Break quilting pile as...

...I look forward to using the rest of the weekend to finish up my Anni Downs project 

as I relax and enjoy some holiday movies. Grateful for a quiet end of the week spent at home.

Feb. OMG Valentine Flimsy Finish

Inspired by Carole's quilts for the California Thomas Fire victims, I used the Perkiomen Valley Block Pattern that was posted on the Ventura Quilt Guild Website to destash and finish my Valentine fabrics into a cozy 72" x 72" quilt top for my February OMG. This is destash project #2...done!

I grabbed a quick picture of my Feb. OMG finish before work today. We had another couple inches of  that light, fluffy kind of snow last night meaning this would get way too wet if I tried to take pictures outside today. But, I wanted to get my finish posted for the linky.  I'll be sure to show much better pictures once it's quilted and the binding is on. But I sure do like it!

I do however, have this cute pile of 4 1/2" squares left-over. It includes 55 light and 20 dark patterns as seen above. I thought about adding two more rows to this top but decided to add a flannel backing and use it as a comfy winter couch quilt. Okay. Baby NAME Quilt

Inspired by Lori Holt's new Spelling Bee book,  I sewed this little quilt together for our new little grand guy using two sets of charm packs to coordinate with his big brother's third birthday quilt. It will be perfect for his crib measuring 38"x50". The letters are the six inch uppercase letters (Boy, they were quick and easy to make too!)  I think it will give them all something to "roar" about don't you.

I bought a brown minky fabric for the backing and am thinking of a royal blue binding 

to match the name row. What do you think??

Five and Dime Quilt Finish

I decided to finish this "five and dime" quilt with no border and can't help but think it will make the perfect baby quilt for a little girl. It finishes at 33" x 55"...just right for a crib don't ya think.

I love it's black binding and red with tiny white polka-dot backing.

And though it's hard to see, I used a Lazy Daisy pantograph to add to it's charm.

It's always a good feeling to empty your stash to build one's stash of baby gifts isn't it!?

Annnddd to squeak in one more finish for 2016! Yippee!!!

WIP: Five and Dime Quilt

 I'm stash busting...and found this quick pattern to help me do just that!

Take a layer cake (the dime: 10") and a charm pack (the nickel: 5")

Center the 5" charm square on top of a 10" square; pin in place. 

Stitch about 1/8"from raw edges of the charm squares.

Pattern from Kansas Troubles Quilters; A Moda Precut Pattern

Next, cut the layered 10" block into fourths to make (4) 5" square segments. 

Mix up the squares and sew back together. 

No need to worry about matching the edges...it's scrappy!!!

This week will find me sewing this into a flimsy and deciding on the border.

Dinosaur Quilt Part 1

I'm back in the studio with windows wide open welcoming the cool pre-Fall breeze we have. There's many unfinished projects begging for my attention, but with our grand guy's third birthday right around the corner, this quilt takes priority. This morning found me sewing this little 44"x 36" top together. As with most toddlers, he loves dinosaurs and actually wouldn't stop playing with the little charm pack I used in this quilt during his last visit. But those charms will fade in comparison of what I have planned for part two of this cute little quilt!

I call this finish: Guardian Angel

I collected these charms during another Kate Spain swap sponsored by Michelle of Crayon Box Studio. It makes for the perfect lap size quilt measuring 37" x 51". It was a quick finish this week and another one I can check off my Winter Sewing list.

So, with it's pantograph of Angels throughout...

...and soft minky backing...

Jackson and I will use it to cuddle up under as we settle down to watch TV each winter evening.

 For, no matter the conditions. or how long the walk, he is ethusiastically at my side...my loyal companion.  I got him as my empty nest puppy and my buddy he has been ever since. 

I know many of you have studio pets too and feel the same way about them as I do him.

Sometimes we rescue them, but more times than not, it has been my experience that they actually end up rescuing us don't they. I count my blessings for the Guardian Angel I have in Jackson...and remind myself of this often especially when he acts all Jack Russell crazy!

PS: You do know all dogs go to heaven right! Just checking.

I finished my Christmas Charm Quilt just in time for today's linky!

I quilted it with a festive Christmas Bell pantograph: 

This finish has inspired me to make more seasonal quilts for our Master bedroom.

(shhhh....I admittably still use a Pottery Barn Comforter that is eight years old on our bed! )

But I love how this quilt brightened up the room and am more motivated to continue with my 2016 plans of making a Kim Diehl inspired quilt for our bed to replace that ol' comforter!

I used a red minky for the back...so it's extra warm and cozy for Winter.

Ready to Quilt and a Thank You!

A big thank you to Michelle who blogs at Crayon Box Quilt Studio for organizing her Kate Spain Charm Swap - the Christmas Edition! I'll get better "quilty" pictures once this is all quilted but I was kinda anxious to share how wonderful the variety of prints came together and 

was able to catch this wintery picture right at dusk: 

I thouroughly enjoyed the easy sewing of chain piecing this past week and was kinda surprised how big this quilt actually ended up. I used 224 charms (I had two spots in Michelle's swap) and the quilt measures  64"x72". I picked up some red minky for the backing during all the fabric sales this past weekend and am looking forward to quilting with minky for the very first time. (Any warnings about loading it on the long-arm please do share.) Anyhoo...I wanted to create this post to thank everyone who participated in the swap. I don't have a local sewing group and for reasons like this, I'm just so grateful for our virtual community. I'm so happy with my cheery Christmas Quilt. I can't wait to quilt it.

Chain Piecing My Way...

...to a making a cozy Christmas Quilt.

 I participated in this Kate Spain Christmas Swap last June to collect charms for this exact kind of simple, relaxing sewing. Along with tackling my big pile of Fall binding, it's rejuvinating to have something to sneak away to while others are napping, watching football or playing on their computers during this holiday week. Sat. Sampler Catch-up

Finally getting caught up on my Saturday Samplers. Whew! These are just 6 1/2" blocks and if you've been following me for any amount of time, you know how much I don't like "little". But I love this Deb Strain fabric line I chose and even more, the Saturday every month I get to spend with a quilty friend as we venture together to our Saturday Sampler meeting. I love getting into a quilt store. I love seeing what every one else is up to. We have fun shopping afterwards and going to lunch. So today, that's what I'm up to...off to get my December block and lunch with a quilty friend.

I almost redid this block due it's many imperfections, but am glad I didn't.

Tommorrow is my sew day and I can't wait!! I'm going to work on my ALYofF layer cake quilt with Hallmark Christmas movies on as I sew! I might not even get out of my jammies!! So, with that said, what are you up to this weekend?
