Feb. OMG: Another Flimsy Finish.

My February goal is to finish my Buggy Barn Sunny Side of the Street into a flimsy. I only have the checkered grass rows between each panel and border to add, so it should be easy to get done.

I plan to custom quilt this finish, thus it will most likely have to wait until my summer break when I have more time to quilt. I'm once again setting monthly goals with everyone else at

A new WIP!!!

I can't even remember the last time I had a new project on the design wall! I'm sooooo excited! 

My Labor Day sew day was so productive that I immediately came home and put this WIP on the design wall. If you ever liked Buggy Barn quilt patterns....the One Sister continues the wonkiness and this is her Sunny Side of the Street Pattern from her newest Crazy Kind of Wonderful book.

Next step is the wool applique! Stay tuned! I think this is going to be a quick finish.

Flannel Heart Finish

My flannel heart quilt is done just in time for the beautiful Fall weather we are having.

It's the perfect lap size, measuring 42"x 68".

I quilted it using a whimsical heart pantograph and you can click here to see that stage.

 I  LOVE the Sew Purrfect Flannel/Woolies Flannel Fabrics I used by Bonnie Sullivan. This will be the perfect couch quilt for little ol' me and I'm looking forward to using it A LOT.

Well, me and Jackson I should say. I think he's ready for me to take it inside so he can break it in!

This is certainly a Happy Friday Finish I've been looking forward to posting and putting to use.

Heart Flimsy

While watching for squirrels, I noticed my mom got her flannel hearts all sewn into a flimsy. 

Hmmm...I can't wait to cuddle under it this Winter.

Even if Winter still seems like a distance away.

Now to decide how to quilt it...I know she's contemplating

a fun pantograph or even FMQ outlining the hearts?? What do you think?

Hello Again!!!

Aughhhhh....as our "staycation" begins to come to an end...it's fun to share that this has been my sewing view for the past twelve days:

Yes, hubby and I snuck off to the mountains for our own little retreat from the world. The cabin we stay at it is perfect and remote enough that our cell service is sporadic at best.  The tendency to check our "mail" and "cruise the internet" disappeared within a few days as we found ourselves settling into being "unplugged". We enjoyed morning coffee and walks without it. We relaxed. Which meant I got to sew! Here's a peek at an upcoming finish that I worked on while away:

Our days were filled with wonderful day hikes:

The people in our hiking club are such great people! We really enjoyed our adventures together.

Mimosa's anyone?? Hey what's a vacation without good food and drink??

We also had fun painting pottery one afternoon...

...and me finding new projects. (This one will be a great stash buster and I think it would look cute hung in my second grade classroom once it's ever finished!)

Of course, afternoon naps were always part of the routine!

Anyhoo....it's good to be back! I missed home. But, I do have to admit, that the rejuvenation found in getting away and taking a break is priceless. It's refreshing and allows me to gain a new perspective on our life's journey. How about you? I'm curious, are you too, the personality type that sometimes need to "reset"?? Nothing like a big box of fabric waiting for ya when ya get home from work!!

Yep! After about six months of searching for the "perfect" set of flannel fabric to make myself a winter evening quilt....I found this bundle at the Fat Quarter Shop:

The Fat Quarter bundle is Sew Purrfect Flannel by Bonnie Sullivan.
The background is Woolies Flannel Red Scattered Dots.

 I plan to sew them into this pattern during my upcoming June retreat!

Always fun to have new projects to look forward to huh.

Oh the joy of a bunch of quiltier's gathered together, sewing for hours, heck for days, at a time! I've only gone to a few retreats but my very favorite was back in May of 2011. A quilty friend and I took off on a road trip to Coeur d'alene, Idaho. (About an eight hour drive)...but we were talking about a five day retreat with Mary Lou Weidman here...so well worth the drive don't ya think! Plus, I never laughed so much on a road trip! Good memories for sure. I had previously purchased the book: Out of the Box: Unleash Your Creativity thru Quilts.  and fell in love with Mary Lou's storytelling idea and was so excited for this opportunity: 

It's actually where my  Oh Happy Day Quilt was "born".

We'd stay up till midnight sketching and coloring!

It was fun to meet Mary Lou. She also introduced me to the color Cheddar...and to think this whole time I thought it was just a wonderful compliment to wine!

Oh and the food we get to eat at retreat!! Oh man, really good food!

We enjoyed a "field trip" day to the Buggy Barn ladies out in Spokane, Wa. 

Seriously, they even had quilts of the ceiling! So much inspiration... 

And we toured downtown Spokane:

Gees, I've had so much fun reminscing this morning, I almost forgot today was our linky! LOL! With that said, I can't wait to see where all of you have been for retreats ("at home" retreats count too). ALYofF Nov. Wonky Scrappy Stars Finish-UPDATED!

Admittably, THIS has been my BIGGEST ALYofF goal this year. More times than not, I asked myself why I chose THIS as my goal right now!!!It's been awhile since I've tackled a queen size quilt. There were numerous moments I did not think I'd make my goal this month as it got a little overwhelming. But thankfully, I got an extra snow day from school, my walks were lessoned due to the weather and my husband worked some 8 to 8 shifts. So I perservered...knowing I couldn't give up, this close to the end. I sewed rows together and added two borders. I made a back with a scrappy row down the middle to give me that extra foot of width I needed:

Backing was made.

  

I ironed six yards of fabric as even though I was lucky enough to find my backing for 35% OFF... it unfortunately had those deep crinkled wrinkles in it...like it was sitting in a sale bin too long...LOL!

Six yards of backing got ironed.

It took me the rest of a Sunday morning to get it all loaded on the long-arm, and then a couple of days after school/work to quilt it.  I love this Fancy Star pantograph and thought it complimented the quilt well.

Jackson couldn't resist getting in on the "photo shoot" and wanted me to make sure I showed you the black 3inch black border along with the 6inch scrappy border:

I can't tell you how very HAPPY I am to have this WIP done!!
It's such a collection of Buggy Barn learning projects/classes that have been sitting around for years.  I also feel pretty thrifty having them all put together into a primitive sytle quilt and even better there is practically NO fabric left over!! LOVE THAT don't you!?
WHEW!!! I'm done!

ALYofF Nov. Goal/Wonky Scrappy Stars

Okay, I've been working on this one waayyyy too long. So it's time to get 'er done.

I don't even know why...as I love it and it's for our geust room upstairs.

Yet, it goes from design wall back into piles, continuously.

So for my Novemeber ALYofF goal, I plan to get her sewed together, quilted, binding done and ready for it's finale at the end of the month as a quilt on a bed!
