This week's theme is: "Made" Fabric

I had fun as I found myself looking back through my own archives to prep for this week's linky.
So weird to think it's already been three years since I found myself recovering from gall-bladder surgery and passing the time playing with scraps...

....to create a rainbow of fat quarters of my own:

Which I turned into this pinwheel of quilty fun:
Okay, this all makes me want to do another scrappy quilt like this...maybe in squares?

Slow Stitching & Reflecting

The first month of the year is almost behind us, and I find myself reflecting upon what's motivating me, and what's not. I joined Kate's 15 Minutes to Stitch Challenge in hopes I would be more intentional about sewing daily. Nope. In reflection, I'm more of a "binge" sewer. I like to sew on Saturdays when my husband is working. I enjoy spending most the day in what my niece referred to as my "Woman Cave" (#sewing room). I look forward to my Saturdays. I find they provide the perfect opportunity to continue this year's OMG challenge. I am enjoying my monthly stash busting and the patterns I'm choosing make for some easy, rejuvenating Saturday sewing...perfect way to end a week.

I'll save daily sewing for Summertime when I'm off from teaching.
Thank goodness for my hand stitching is all I can say! So with that said, I think I'll sit by the fire a bit longer this morning and enjoy a bit more of it. Happy Sunday Stitching everyone and I hope you too are meeting some of your goals for 2018 and adjusting them when needed.

Jan. OMG: Snowmen Jelly Roll Flimsy

Yeah!! Stash busting project number one for 2018 is done!
For my January OMG I successfully turned a jelly roll into a flimsy finish:
This pattern is called Strip Search by G.E. Designs. It was quick and easy to sew together.
I used the whole jelly roll and it finished into a comfy lap size quilt measuring 47"x 63".
I choose a tan flannel for the backing and once I get my long-arm back from repairs, I'm looking forward to getting it quilted and having it added to our livingroom of quilts.
Jackson awoke from a nap to watch me from the deck:
Our Winter continues to be unseasonably with 38-45 degree days with rain and no snow.
So though most the day will be spent sewing in the studio, I'm sure we'll take advantage of the mild weather to enjoy a long walk  and some fresh air. For now, I'm linking up with everyone else at:

This week's theme is: Marking Tools
LOL! Oh I love when I'm late to my own party! Especially, when I'm really looking forward to this week's linky theme. Seriously, I've YET to find a marking tool that I like.
I've used pencils, pens and even chalk...but no favorite yet.
Lea Anne who blogs at Poduck Pretties wrote a helpful post  last week that highlighted markers AND included a detailed variety of ways to get rid of a stubborn stain left behind! Arg! I think I would cry.

Family Fun!

Surprise family visits took precedence of my weekend sewing...and that's a okay with me,
as these are the people I create many of my quilts for anyways!
 My report this week:
Days with sewing this week:  4 out of 7
Days with sewing this month:  14 out of 21
Days with sewing this year:  14 out of 21
Success rate:  57%

I did get a few more scrappy flowers sewn and pre-cut fabric for my February OMG. I'm actually "recycling" last year's Valentine Quilt that I never finished using a MUCH quicker pattern.
Stay tuned, as I get my long-arm back this week after being in for some much needed TLC. (Admittedly, I messed up the hook balance too.) Anyhoo...I can't wait to get some things done!

A Quilty Nap...

The only sunny spot in our home right now:
Such an unseasonal winter we are having.
So very mild in comparison to our Winter Snow last year!
But it's still cold out...so when I can't find Jackson, I know this is where to look! I'm looking forward to a quiet afternoon of sewing as I too stay warm and await for our house guests to arrive later this afternoon. And yes! That includes two cute little grand guys on top of a surprise visit from our niece last night and again tonight. Love these kind of last minute surprises. Love staying up till 1:00 in the morning by a warm fire, sipping tea and catching up with family. I'll drop in to share my progress in the sewing room tomorrow. Until then, Happy Saturday everyone!!

This week's theme is: Modern Quilts
A quote from the Modern Quilt Guild helps us define the genre today:
"Modern Quilters bring a new bold new aethetic to a craft dominated by traditional and art quilting. The clean lines and stylish color schemes prevalent in modern quilting appeal to fans of sophisticated modern design."
This is our second time visiting this theme, the last being two years ago.
From that linky, I found Jasmine's modern take on the traditional Farmer's Wife:

Scrap Play!

I've continued to enjoy Kate's 15 Minute to Sew Challenge and even finished my Jan. OMG Snowman Jelly Roll into a flimsy. Here's just a peek as I'm hoping to get my long-arm back from some well needed maintenance and actually have it finished by month's end.

I also started a CREATIVE project that I've had in the back of my head:
I've never done strip piecing.
I've been wanting to use text prints against bold, print  for e v e r.
With that said, this makes for the perfect 15 minutes of sewing after a long day at work.
It's going to be fun to watch this project evolve, as right now I have no plan accept to continue having fun creating these scrappy flowers that seem to be quickly blooming from my scrap basket.
Quilting is more fun than Housework
 My report this week:
Days with sewing this week:  5 out of 7
Days with sewing this month:  10 out of 14
Days with sewing this year:  10 out of 14
Success rate:  71%
Stay tuned!

Tuesday Archive #179: Machine Binding

Hello! Hello! and Happy Tuesday Archives!

This week's theme is: Machine Binding

I have yet to master the "art" of machinge binding. Seriously, though I prefer the look of handing binding, machine binding is a bit more durable for all the toddler quilts I make. Yet,  I can never get that beautiful, straight finish on the reverse side. Anyhooo.... this is my "go to" tutorial, by Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew, that I use when I do finish a quilt using machine binding.
I appreciate her step by step, illustrated directions.

Jan. OMG: Jelly Roll Progress

I continue to enjoy stitching my Anni Downs BOM.
I'll receive my final block next month and will have the whole quilt baste stitched. At which time, I look forward to adding a bunch of Sue Spargo's creative stitching as this continues to be my evening stitching project though-out 2018. I can't wait to add a bunch of whimsical details to this piece.

And have found motivation in the rejuvenation of Kate's 15 Minutes a day linky:
Days with sewing this week:  5 out of 7
Days with sewing this month:  5 out of 7
Days with sewing this year:  5 out of 7
Success rate:  71%

This is a perfect statistic for me as my "15 minutes" doesn't include my evening stitching. Instead, I;m using this linky as motivation to get myself into my studio and sewing. And it worked!
I got all my jelly roll strips sewn and pressed this week. Four sets of six:

Three sets of five:
At this pace, I'll have these cut and sewn into a flimsy by next week's report. This will put me right on track for meeting my OMG. Happy New Year to me! Thanks for the motivation Kate.

Jan. OMG: Snowman Jelly Roll

This year I'm setting out to De-stash projects I've had sitting around for way too long. Each month this year, I'm going to use the motivation of the OMG Linky to get them done one month at a time.  With that said, say hello to January's OMG:
Turning this Snowman Gatherings II Jelly Roll by Moda into a quilt top.
I have a quick and easy pattern that allows for some easy strip sewing.
Thank so very much for organizing this event for us Patty!
I'm looking forward to a productive year of De-stashing.

California Thomas Fire Quilts

I'm answering Carole's "call for"  quilt blocks as she sets out to create two quilts for the California Thomas Fire victims. Her goal is 60 blocks. How easy it was to dig through my scraps and in less than 45 minutes, I had these two blocks done and ready to send to Carole. I'm a firm believer that many hands make for light work. I wanted to share this with you, as well, can you imagine how good it will feel for these victims to receive a homemade quilt from strangers during a time when one has lost everything and their faith is being tested.
I hope you'll think about joining me in answering Carole's call for help. You can find this Thomas Fire Relief 12-inch block design at the Ventura Quilt Guild HERE.
