Meet my vintage New Home Light Running Sewing Machine:
I found this at a garage sale while out on my long weekend walk this afternoon.
It even came in it's original sewing cabinet:
All for $25.00! Have you ever been unable to resist such a find?? I love it's old style, olive green color. It's made of metal and operates using a knee pedal and YES it runs!!!! The old style plug is in wonderful condition. Looks like from the medallion label, it was made in 1889. I only wish it could talk and tell me stories of it's journey and projects made!
If you have a vintage piece, I'm curious what you've done with it. I think mine would look good in one of our guest rooms with a quilt draped on it. I also think I'll use it to sew a sampler size quilt top for the fun of it! (And I just added "Vintage Sewing Machines" to my Tuesday Archives list!) Be cool to see what vintage machines everyone else collects.
Hope your weekend is super!
With smiles,
Val:)
That is wonderful! I have a vintage machine that I learned to sew on (really, I am not vintage!). I will link the story up with your Tuesday archive party!
ReplyDeleteSweet find!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love it. I so need to walk more! I have a machine I can link up too!
ReplyDeleteWow! It pays to be healthy and walk. NICE!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find!! I always want to take the vintage machines home!!
ReplyDeleteThere is no way that I would be able to resist such a find!
ReplyDeleteOh, this was a lucky day, great find!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fabulous find. A treasure ;)

Oh that is terrific. I have an itching to own an old machine but I haven't come across just the right one. Yet. I'm sure eventually I will see one screaming my name. Have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteLucky you Val, what a great find! I saw some old treadle sewing machines a few years ago at a garage sale. They needed a lot of work, which my husband would have done, but we have a small house and there is no room for a treadle or a machine like you found in a cabinet in our home. I do have a Singer 301 machine I love and it's my take with me machine for retreats and such.
ReplyDeleteYour olive colored vintage machine makes me green with envy! I LOVE old machine and yet I don't have one of my very own :( . I will have to remedy that very soon don't you think?
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to have a back-up machine. Truth be told, the old metal machines last longer, and I'll bet, didn't have to go to the shop as often. I love my circa 1960 machine... metal and in a cabinet. I use the knee pedal, but I could take it out of the cabinet and use the foot pedal. (It just has such a small step on spot that it's not that easy to use.)
ReplyDeleteYou might like it better than your regular.
Hugs
I think you've got it all wrong. I think the sewing machine found you! It looks to be in wonderful condition - well done!
ReplyDeleteJanine now owns this company and may be able to give you an accurate year of manufacture, check out this blog post o wrote recently:http://adventurousquilter.blogspot.com/2014/02/dating-sewing-machines.html
ReplyDeleteShe is a great machine, I look forward to setting VSMIA (vintage sewing machine in action) photo's some day soon 😁

ReplyDeleteThat looks alot like the early 50's Necchi that my mom had and that I learned to sew on in the early 70's. Loved that machine!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky find! And the machine is lucky to have found a good home.
ReplyDeleteHow fun for you! Certainly not a find you want to pass up.
ReplyDeleteWhat a steel! Looks like a lot of fun to me. Will be fun to see how she sews. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteResist?? There would have been absolutely NO resisting such a beautiful machine at that give away price!! I think you are going to fall in love with it and sew on her all the time! :) I don't have a vintage machine but I do look, just LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a find, and for so little money. I followed your example and went for a walk after reading this. Very disappointing: no-one was selling anything. Even the shops were closed.
ReplyDeletevery cool find Val-enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic Val, I hope you have as much fun with your old machine as I do with mine :D
ReplyDeleteHi Val! Joanne here, writing to you from The Netherlands! I was introduced to your blog from LeeAnna of Not Afraid of Color!
ReplyDeleteThat sewing machine is a cool find! I love the old sewing machines! Sew much charm! And history! If only they could talk! For more great ideas, I just learned about http://sewsitall.blogspot.nl/2011/12/singer-hand-crank-custom.html from a friend! Must give it a try !
Take care,
Joanne
What a great find Val. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteGreat find!! It's wonderful that old things are cherished!
ReplyDeleteI have an old Graybar picked up at a mission store and I use it as a display piece
ReplyDeleteI love the color. I do all of my quilting on a treadle and my piecing on a hand crank.
ReplyDeleteGreat find and great price too! I hope you have lots of sewing time with her!! I, too, would love to know the life stories of these precious gems!
ReplyDeleteI love my oldies but goodies too! I have a treadle, 2 hand cranks, one with a fiddle base, and a featherweight, plus my moms, grandmothers and mother in laws machines!!! But I mostly sew on the featherweight. I guess I need to take pics and write a blog post about them!
What a neat sewing machine!! As you know I do all my quilting on a vintage 15-91 Singer.....I actually have 3! Thanks for sharing.

Wow, that seems like a steal. It will look great in a guest room with a quilt draped over the table. Have you made anything using this machine yet?
