Treasure Find #1:
Hidden inside this case:
Was this:
For FIVE DOLLARS...and it works!
All's it needs is a new light bulb and a belt: (ya think!)
Treasure Find #2:
Check out what's inside here:
Ta!Da!
I seriously have no clue about either of these. (LOL!) But we were out garage sale hunting for a high chair and came across them. On day one, they wanted $100.00 for them both...by late Sunday afternoon...they were lined up on the sidewalk just waiting for my final return!
And seriously,my treasure hunting didn't even end there
as I found all this inside one of the drawers:
The best $15.00 I've spent in a long time don't ya think!?
I can't wait to research these and get them busy sewing. I guarantee future posts. But in the mean time, if you have any websites you would recommend me to use to start my research, please do leave them in the comments, I'd be sooo appreciative. Linking up with my blogging buddy Marianne at her linky: Thrift Thursday and a few other linky parties that are on my "party" page. Check them out.
With smiles!
Val:)

ReplyDeleteGreat finds!!! It's amazing what you can stumble upon sometimes! Have fun, and you'll have your new babies up and running in no time!

fun finds! I think singer has a good site for vintage machines-just do a google search-amazing what infor. is on the web
ReplyDeleteYou got a great deal! If I had more space I would love to buy up all those homeless sewing machines I find at yard sales. I've seen treadles too that needed work on both the cabinet and machine, but no place to put them *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOooh, those are treasures indeed! Have you been following Erin at Sew At Home Mummy? She's refurbishing an old Featherweight or Singer. http://www.sewathomemummy.com/2014/05/wip-wednesday-singer-66-16-project-baby.html.
ReplyDeleteYes, the inter net should really help you. Cheryl at http://cherylsteapots2quilting.blogspot.com/ owns and refurbishes a lot of old machines and may be a great resource for you too.
ReplyDeleteGreat resources so far!! THANK YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! I really love the blue one! Definitely got your moneys worth!!
ReplyDeleteHow FUN!!!! I love old sewing machines too :) :) :) I only have room for 2 lovely ones at my house because I also have 2 modern ones plus a serger and a cover lock. One of my oldies is a handcrank! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI see a previous comment suggest contacting Cheryl at Cheryl's Teapots 2 Quilting. She helped me a LOT with learning the age and other info on my machines and how to clean it etc. she's lovely. Go look at her wonderful old machines on her blog too. She's amazing.
Have fun with your treasures!!!
What fun! Can't wait to see how you use them!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Ironically, the sewing machine I bought on a whim for $25 is my current favorite for free-motion quilting (out of 4 sewing machines)! Sometimes, you get an oldie-but-goodie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a bargain! Love both machines, but that first one really caught my eye. So shiny and pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove both the machines, but the blue one is a dear. I bought a blue vintage Brothers machine just for its color and cool knobs on front. I have four vintage machines and that is really my limit. It's a shame, isn't it, to be limited by space. When you find deals like yours, it certainly wouldn't kill the budget to have more, but...the whole house can't have a sewing machine on every surface...hmmm, or can it? I'm sure I can find a spot for a Featherweight though. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow cute are these machines and the gorgeous table? You are sooo lucky!
ReplyDeleteBonnie Hunter of Quiltville collects antique machines and knows a lot about them.

What a lucky lady you were, and smart to follow up with a second visit! I love the blue one, even if it didn't work. Do you plan to refinish the table that came with the 2nd. machine. It probably wouldn't take too much work and it would be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love the color of the first one too! And the character of the second caught my eye! My dad is refurb. the cabinet. (Future post for sure!!) I plan to use it as a desk in our extra bedroom...and once I get the machine going...I can always pop it out and sew if I want. Love multi-purposing things!!!
DeleteWish my husband could see the value in me beginning to collect some of these great finds. I guess if I went to work restoring my grandmothers treadle it might help. But he says there isn't enough room and I can only use one at a time anyway. But your finds look wonderful. Sometimes patience pays. I love the woven front of the cabinet drawer.
ReplyDeleteYou made out like a bandit! Try Cheryl's Teapots and ? on my list. She repairs, and has a list of contacts for parts and service manuals. She'll help you or be able to send you to the right spot.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Awesome finds!!!!! That little blue one is such a delightful color!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Lucky you! The Elite is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe "woven" look on that sewing cabinet! I love it. What great finds!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding!! I need to go to garage sales with you! Yep, I am jealous! They are great! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! The cabinet looks like the one my Mom purchased in 1964 with her Singer Touch and Sew. I have it with her sewing machine in it!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with these great finds Val! What treasures! Great Summer projects!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many ways to fix up cabinets!
Take care,
Joanne
Hello Val,
ReplyDeleteThe Necchi Elite is a 15 clone, in other words it threads and works exactly the same as a Singer 15, and is suitable for free motion quilting. If you go to my blog and click the heading Singer 15K on the sidebar you should find useful info, including a couple of Youtube videos. I have loads of info generally about vintage machines and how to use them. Even though I don't use electric machines, you will find plenty of helpful things on my blog.
Sorry, cant help you with the second machine - it's far too modern!
Love, Muv
Fun finds! Enjoy learning about both your new sewing buddies.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend going to Bonnie Hunter's site. She has a ton of links to information on restoring old sewing machines. Here's a link to the page showing ALL of her machines and at the bottom is a list of all the links she uses and recommends.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!
:) Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation
Whoo, hoo, you scored big time! That blue one is a beaut! I was also going to suggest checking in with Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville as she has a many antique machines and has done many posts where she has shown herself to be pretty knowledgable about identifying them and how to go about restoring them. Have fun with them!
ReplyDeleteShes beautiful! And I love what you did with the cabinet, too ! What a find :)
ReplyDeleteTwo great finds. At that price, even if they didn't work, they'd still be worth it just because they are so pretty to look at :)
ReplyDeleteI love that Singer Sewing Book :)
This is wonderful! I love vintage sewing machines and have a few of my own. Great buy. This is my first visit to your blog. Superb!
ReplyDeleteYou might try Sew Classic for parts and information. I bought from them and they are reliable and knowledgeable. Good luck! Here is the link, www.sew-classic.com
