I've Created a Stitching Monster!

The stitching continues in Second Grade.
First the blanket stitch, then the chain stitch, followed by the running stitch.
This little guy loves stitching so much when I couldn't find my Creative stitching book
and asked if anyone had seen it...he exclaimed, "I'm using it for silent reading!!"
(So of course I had to take a picture of it tucked in his desk!)
He is now "my assistant" and helps me teach the other students.

It's rewarding to see the elephant parade continue.
.I especially love how these noses actually roll up!
Creative Stitching has certainly become a relaxing transition between subjects.
If you could be a fly on the wall, what are you curious about as the children learn to stitch?

  1. These elephants are so cute, but seeing those little fingers work so hard is priceless! Wonder if the students are teaching someone at home to stitch too?

  3. Thank you for the sweet pictures of the little stitchers. My grands are learning to embroider and use the sewing machine. It is so fun to watch them and their excitement.

  6. So glad you're stitching with your kids! I always felt that 2nd grade was the perfect time to start, and it sure adds a little something to the classroom in the spring!

  7. I'd like to know if they talk about people who sew at home, or in the past in their families. For instance, does anyone say they have a bunch of quilts that a grandma or great-grandma made? Also, do they mention whether there's a sewing machine at home?

  8. Silent Reading Dude is my favorite person I've read about on the internet today!! What I want to know is are they quiet as they sew? I imagine them concentrating hard on this new skill...

  9. Do they compare their work and like what their friends are doing. I'm so glad you are doing this with your students, they will always remember you. Hugs,

  10. Do they talk while they're stitching and, if so, what topics?

  12. I get so relaxed when I sew, off in another world, with no cares or worries. I wonder if the same happens to them when they are sewing. Ok, another, from my years of teaching---do they move their tongues around when they concentrate on stitching? My students did that with any coloring, cutting, etc. project they did.
