Tuesday Archives #24: Fat Quarter Quilts & Feathered Quilting

Welcome to the linky party that let's you rejuvenate your old quilting/sewing posts!
(Check over in my right margin for the list of  upcoming August themes)

Val's Quilting Studio
This week is all about skimming through those archives and finding quilts made from Fat Quarters and quilts that feature Feathered Quilting.

FAT QUARTERS:

As a new quilter, I went crazy for awhile collecting fabric in Fat Quarters.  Now, I'm always on the hunt for new Fat Quarter Patterns. So to say the least, I'm really looking forward to today's linky party!

Below is a picture of my very favorite fat quarter pattern to make. (I think I've made three or four so far...I'll check MY archives and link them up.) It's a quick and easy pattern that you can easily sew up in a weekend! Unfortunately, I don't have this pattern to share as I picked it up at a Quilt Retreat over two years ago, and it's copy-righted by the creator and no where on the pattern does it say where to buy it?!  But I can tell you, this lap size finishes at about 53"x70", uses 12 fat quarters, 1 yard of sashing cut into 2 1/2" strips, 1/2 yard of fabric cut into seven 2 1/2" strips for the binding and 4 yards for the back.    (Hope that helps a little)

I made this Pinwheel Quilt in 2012 (preblogging). I'm kinda laughing at myself, as this is how I took my quilt pictures: on the floor of my studio. I'm so happy to share it today!

I made it as a Christmas gift for our oldest daughter...who is now married and the momma to that adorable grandson of ours! This quilt is well worn and soft now... no wonder as that bright pink and white polka dot backing is flannel!!

FEATHERED QUILTING:

Many of us know Connie from her Tuesday Linky:
Well, this week, Connie gets highlighted!! I am for some reason "chicken" to try FMQ Feathers until I found and read Connie's archived post from September of 2012. (Check it out here.) Connie's post is informative with FMQ resources and inspiration that makes me want to start carrying a notebook around with the intent to just start practicing!! (Thanks Connie!

  3. Val, I still have to photograph my quilts on the floor until they're done (I have a design wall but it's not very big)! Now that I've seen your lovely quilt I want one with a pink spotty flannel back - it's sounds so cozy.

  5. I love how bright your pinwheel quilt is. I bet it still looks great now, even though I am sure the colours have faded with age and lots of use.

  6. The pinwheel quilt is such fun with those bright fabrics and that polka dot backing. Looks like your daughter was thrilled.

One other thing I've learned as I've been participating in the Tuesday Archives linky party, is that my quilt photography has also improved over the years. Some of my early quilt photos need some serious photo shopping to make them blog worthy!

  11. Val this is a great idea for a linky party - makes me wish that I had archives, LOL. It's fun to see stuff pulled from the past and given a second go around! Love your bright and cheery pinwheel quilt and it is clear to see that your beautiful daughter did too. I like hearing that it got lots of use over the years.
