As I begin this quilting project I'm so very grateful for extra-wide backing!!!
This morning I've been busy getting this queen size pretty on the frame and am anticipating it will take me a good chunk of my last three weeks of summer break to quilt it. I plan to crosshatch the nine-patches and stipple the background of each flower, along with outlining each flower. The song "99 beers " I mean, blocks, is chiming in my head as I prepare for this daunting quilting adventure.
I'm a little worried as I haven't even started and I'm already looking forward to having it done. (Hmmmm that might not be a good sign???) But, seriously, after seven years of quilting, I've finally made a quilt for OUR master bed! I refuse to let this pretty sit and gather dust as a UFO.
So here we go as I tip-toe through the flowers quilting to the tune of ninty-nine blocks to complete.
Wish me patience and successful ruler skill.

I've never done the posies, but do so love them set with the 9-patch. This is so sweet and does need to be finished and used.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you will have quilting it! And yes, you may tire of it before you are done. :)
ReplyDeleteyes! You should have a pretty quilt on the bed! Looking forward to seeing it finished and a pic of it on your bed!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pretty quilt top, Val. Good luck with your quilting...I'm sure it is going to be a beauty when it is finished.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Val and will be even better after you quilt it. Good time to get it done before fall comes.
ReplyDeleteis this going on a hand quilting frame or are you machine quilting it very lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove your large size and how you set it. Good quilting plan.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous quilt you are preparing to quilt!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so rewarding to finally be quilting something for your own bed? Can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteYou will do it. Just don't talk yourself out of it. I'm sure you will do a great job and it will look even better when finished and on your bed.
ReplyDeleteSlow and steady wins the race. Do some every day but not all day. Alternate with some piecing or string blocks or anything to provide some variety. After 20 years of quilting, I finally finished a quilt for my own bed 2 years ago.
ReplyDeletePat
It's a beautiful quilt and will be even more so when it's laying on your bed! Hugs,
ReplyDeleteI love this one and can't wait to see it quilted!! I agree--wide backs rule!
ReplyDeleteA little bit each day, block by block, and soon you'll be finished! Maybe reward yourself every 9 blocks with one beer? :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful quilt this is going to be, Val. Love the design of your quilt top. Three weeks, wow, but I am sure with a little liquid refreshment along the way, this amazing quilt will be sitting atop your bed by the end of your Summer break. Can't wait to see it all done and quilted. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove your plan, it is going to look fantastic. Just work a little each day and soon it will be done. Sometimes when I have a daunting project, I just set a goal of 30 minutes a day, more if I feel like it, but I give myself permission to work on other things, or to take a long coffee break.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic 😍 hopefully you'll get some joy as you start to see progress
ReplyDeletebest of luck with the quilting looks so good even before you start. Lucky you having a long arm to do it on, I struggle on my little machine though considering buying one with a bigger arm
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you are going to have! Starting is always the hardest part, but you've got your plan, and you've got your song, and I suspect by the time you read my post, you'll be on your way! Let us know how is goes :)
ReplyDeleteA quilt for your own bed! Youve got one up on me. I bought fabric to make a quilt for our bed over two years ago...
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful!! I like the quilting plan - can't wait to see it finished. You will be so happy to have in on your bed soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope you've made a good start on your quilting and are close to having a new quilt for your bed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a good idea to try to DRINK 99 bottles of beer while quilting this lovely... ;-) I hope it's going well, and that you are feeling more motivated as you see the quilt top transformed by texture as you're stitching!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I hope it goes quickly for you! And I love that it will go on YOUR bed!
ReplyDeleteSo how is it going Val? Is it on your bed yet LOL or has Netflix and hand sewing distracted you from this monolithic task?
