May Happy Mail

My monthly fat quarters have arrived and they are as cute as a ladybug!

Serious!! I LOVE RED!
On a totally different note: I have met NONE of my quilting goals this week.
I was going to do the Blogger Festival....not.
I was going to get my Classroom Quilt finished and posted for a Friday Finish....not.
But, you know what I told myself: "It's OKAY!!!"
Right now, in this chapter of my life, I'm learning how to relax and slow down without feeling guilty. Ya ever feel like you actually have to learn how to enjoy slowing down? LOL!

But, that's how May is in a teacher's life...a lot going on to wrap up a school year and sometimes, I have to give myself permission to breathe and relax.  I'm also a lead teacher for summer school, so in counter balance, I am busy getting ready for that too. I love my work. But, seriously, by the time I get home right now, I am done. I can't imagine being inside anymore. I enjoy a walk, dinner, a glass (or two) of wine. The evening is wrapped up with me wool stitching, a cup of tea at my side, watching a few of our favorite TV shows. I am to bed early.

I know I'm just missing my time in the studio and starting to look forward Summer Break...the most rejuvenating time of my life!!! Okay, I'm kinda chatty this post. (LOL!) BUT! I do foresee some quilting posts this weekend. YAH!!! (As my husband's schedule is crazier than mine right now...which means more quilting time as I fill the void of our schedules being out of whack.)
Smiles,
Val:)

April Happy Mail

My monthly fat quarters arrived like a ray of sunshine in the mail!

And...I also treated myself to these 1/2 yard cuts from Jane's Fabrics. This is her In The Beginnings Set. I'm thinking of ordering three more ABC panels, another yard of the blue and 2 1/2 more yards of the dots for a future ABC classroom quilt.
I'm off on a  field trip with my second graders today. Stop by tomorrow for a look at their animal/nature blocks they have been creating for this year's classroom quilt. They are really enjoying this project.
With Smiles,
Val:)

March Happy Mail

My monthly fat quarters have arrived!
And they truly make me smile! I love this range of greens this month.
You can read more about these lovelies here.
I'm feeling tons better and want to thank everyone for their well wishes.  I plan to follow your advice to take it slow and continue to get plenty of rest as I get started on my March ALYofF!  (Yes, I'm just starting...LOL!!) But, since my Spring Break plans dissolved before my eyes and I'm home until the coughing fades...I think this goal is still attainable...as I prepare to have myself an at-home sewing vacation instead.
With smiles,
Val:)

January Happy Mail

My Monthly Fat Quarters have arrived:
I realized today, I do not have many purples in my stash. So these will make a great addition!!! (Isn't that purple wood grain, fifth from the left, awesome!) Anyhooo...some of you have inquired about my Monthly delivery and they are from Pink Castle's:
Pink Castle Fabrics
I'm not able to frequent quilt stores very often. So this is perfect for me! I have never been disappointed. My daughters Picnic Quilt was actually made from my Yellow and Blue Monthly deliveries!

Speaking of my youngest daughter, who can pull colors and patterns together so well. She gave me these:
I looked on the salvage and they are part of the Scrumptious Line by Bonnie & Camille for Moda. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them...but I love them!
Any suggestions for a quick and easy quilt top??

And finally, I ordered these hand-dyes from Kathy at  KathyintheOzarks
to use in my applique work. (My picture does NOT do them justice! Please check out her ETSY shop to see them at their best.)  I love their variegation of tones. I'm really excited to incorporate these into my wool play this year!!!
I do apologize for my poor quality of pictures this post. I was a little frustrated myself and went through many pictures...but you know the weather we are having.... and it's already evening...well...just thanks for being cool about it! I love getting my monthly fat quarters in the mail and just had to share!!!

With smiles!
Val:)

December Happy Mail

Aughhh....my December fat quarter package arrived in the mail today!
What a great variety of browns.
I also received a "surprise" package from blogger friend Dona from Grateful 4 Quilting. She sent these awesome prints to add to my Eye Spy Quilt! Are they not the cutest!!!! Thanks so much Dona!
I missed blogging this week....but with the weather we've had and it being the last week of school before break...I was exhausted! (My second Graders CAN NOT wait till Christmas! I only wish I could package their energy!) I did make a lot of progress of my Garden Party Applique Quilt in the evenings and think I'm going to have a Friday Finish next week. YAH!!!!!!

We had ANOTHER 5 inches of snow last night....but the sun shined bright for most the day today (insert a big smiley face). Yet, as I write this post and gaze outside my window, the inversion is creeping back (insert okay face). I'm okay...because having grown up in the Arizona desert, I can tell you I am NOT a hot weather person. I absolutely love living where we get to enjoy the four seasons! But, I will admit, it was wonderful to feel the sun on my face today. After a week and half of frigid weather, my buddy Jackson and I finally got to go for an afternoon walk. (Yes, I'm a avid walker.)
90% of the sidewalks were shoveled, so that made for an easier excursion.
Jackson often venturing off into the snow. He didn't seem to mind when he often found himself buried. He truly loves our walks as much as I do.
I mean, just look at that face!
He just kept going and going. But I did sense he was a little releaved when were just around the corner from home. (As I'm sure he was feeling frozen!)
Of which, upon arrival of, I gave him a warm bath and then sat down for a dinner of warm, homemade chili. The beginning of the week will find me starting my winter break from teaching.(YAHHH!!!!) I plan to get busy in the studio creating and setting  my quilting goals for 2014. So be sure to stop by and see what I come up with. I'm thinking of a linky part of sorts so we can all share our quilty aspirations for 2014.
Until then, keep smiling!

Val:)
