Dec. OMG: Dotty Christmas Flimsy Finish

Welllll....I started the year and now ended the year joining all of you for:

I set out to make this quilt last December but it didn't get done:

But this year, this December, I enjoyed transforming that pile of fat quarters above into this 

Dotty Christmas Finish:

This finish measures 48"x 68".

I would like you input on the backing. I put these choices in my 

Fat Quarter "Cart" and of course, want to take advantage of the fact they are all on sale:

  

Which one do ya think? They are a little blurry, but the red has words and the green has little Scotties.

Dec. OMG: Dotty Christmas

I've had this stack of dotty christmas colored fat quarters laying around for a year or two. I found a fun, fat quarter friendly pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew and quickly got them cut and ready for some easy, after work sewing throughout this busy holiday month of December.

For my goal, I plan to have these transformed into a Dotty Christmas Quilt.

Hello May!

Oh Happy, Happy Merry Month of May!

It's that time of year again when the end of the school year is fast approaching and there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done I'd like to do. Soooo here comes my list to share with everyone else at OMG to help keep track of all my creative projects.

In the sewing room:

   My H2H quilt will be posted and mailed this week. Yeah! Then, as the weekend nears, I plan to complete my April Scrap Dance Tango Mystery step and get this pretty below onto the quilting frame. I want to get it quilted & bound for my May OMG over the next couple of weeks. Don't ya just love it's "springy" colors. And for some easy peasy, scrappy sewing, I'd be pysched to get my March red and May green RSC crayons done. Well see....if not, I'll get them caught up over Summer.

 I also plan to have a little R&R one Sunday afternoon as I stay in my jammies and enjoy a good movie as I prep the first block of my 2017 BOM. (It just arrived in the mail!). I've missed having an applique project on hand and do look forward to having this as my Slow Sunday Stitching...especially as the weather gradually begins to warm and I can sit outside and stitch. (It finishes as a queen size so I'm looking forward to having a new bed quilt around this time next year.) 

Sounds like a good month of sewing ahead don't ya think.

 

In the classroom:

With six weeks of school left (Time to make up for our January Armageddon of snow) we will continue to be busy and creative in the classroom to help make the best of our make-up days: 

Our last "theme" of study for the year has us engaging in American Traditions. We have team t-shirts to tye-dye, a classroom quilt to create, field trips by bus and more Virtual Google Exporations,

Finally we'll wrap up the year celebrating summer birthdays by frosting and decorating our very own cupcakes and creating handmade pinatas (remember paper mache). I'll be sure to share our growing school of fishy beanbags as the kids have not grown tired stitching yet. I have a feeling I'll be putting some summer sewing kits together. Their enthusiasm to stitch truly makes my day!  Thanks so much for cheering us on with your kind comments, know your support makes my day too. I'm looking forward to sharing this creative month of fun with you as this Merry Month of May gets underway! .

Feb. OMG: No Valentine Quilt

And here my Valentine Quilt sits....awaiting it's turn at the sewing machine.

I have no idea why really, except for the simple fact February seemed to have zoomed by right before my eyes. My husband teases it's due to the fact I've had to get use to working again since our unforeseen January series of snow storms. (Even this morning's inch of snow didn't phase us.)

Truth be told, I have been enjoying the day by day flow of my life. My daily workouts, reading and watching movies as I stitch the binding of a quilt I finished almost three years ago! 

I've truly felt calm and as if I've been truly just carrying on, peaceful in my own shoes.

Life is good.

Feb. OMG: Valentine Quilt

Things are gradually getting back to normal around here.

Cranes being used for snow removal on roofs and one lane streets are common right now.

But enough snow has been removed that the kids can get outside to play. Atleast they can play a little basketball and run around on the newly created circular "road" on their playground area.

And those that choose to brave the depths of the snow, worked together to dig out the slide and find themselves able to play on the monkeybars simply by walking along the top of the snow!

(Every now and again, someone will "drop" up to their hips...but they work together to get out.)

So while the kids dig themselves out of snow, I have found myself digging through my stash of reds, whites, pinks, greys and blacks in hopes to create a queen size Valentine themed quilt for our bed as my February One Monthly Goal this month. I have an easy, fat quarter pattern that I've been wanting to make. If I get this cut and sewn into a top this month...that would be awesome goal accomplished!

Jan. OMG: Winter Wallhanging Finish

My January OMG was to get these finished into a wallhanging that would be completed and

hanging in our home by the end of the month. 

Ta Da! With two days to spare, I got 'er done. 

Knowing this was my "One Monthly Goal" motivated me to get this one done. I used a variety of random quilting on this one as I didn't want the quilting to be too dense and well, quite honestly, I wasn't in the mood to quilt this weekend. So I  kept things simple as I echoed around the mittens and the hearts and quilted small snowflakes on the two snowman blocks.

I didn't want to use a pantograph, yet wanted the effect that it was snowing.

So, I randomly quilted nine larger snowflakes throughout the quilt. 

I know there's a ton of different ways I could have really enhanced this quilt if I had taken the time to quilt it, but honestly, sometimes it's just nice to get it done. So, if you ever find yourself in "the neighborhood" know you'll find yourself cozy right here were it now hangs in our guest room:

Jan. OMG: Winter Seasonal Wallhanging

Aughhhh....one last day of my Winter break. (I always love going back to school/work on a Tuesday as it makes the week go by so much faster!) So my last day of vacation will find me prepping flying geese and star blocks as I exclaim this Winter Seasonal Celebrations wall hanging as my January OMG! I'm going to actually change out of my jammies and take a few breaks from the sewing room to shovel snow, get my nails done, and enjoy a yoga class. But for the most part, I'll be sewing.

You had a peek at this quilt a bit ago...and as you can see, I have a good jump on this quilt with almost the applique stitched and ready to go. Another wonderful thing about this quilt is it's a stash buster!!! I'm using a lot of Kim Deihl and Buggy Barn fabrics I have on hand. This Wintery piece will finish at about 42" x 54" and looking forward to having it hang in our home by the end of the month.

2017 is off to a wonderful start and I'm happy to join everyone else at OMG:
