Turning Scraps into "Made-Fabric"

I'm finally up for some easy sewing and having fun turning this pile of scraps into...

...some "made-fabric"  fat quarters.
The scraps left in the pile were too small for me to save anymore, so I just threw them away.(Very cleansing) Next, I start cutting into them to make a quilt top. Stay tuned!
Oh!! And notice my new "signature"?? (Hey, a girl has to do something to keep herself busy while recovering and watching a marathon of NCIS shows.)
I added a link to the "how to" on my tutorial page.

Today's theme is Nine-Patch Quilts.

While getting ready for this week's linky, I found myself searching through archives and found this one in Deb's who blogs at A Simple Life Quilts from February of 2013. I love the dark purple contrasted with the lime green! And those daisies on the back are irresisable don't ya think!! You can read more about her quilting of this quilt right here.

And here's a Disappearing Nine Patch inspired by Deb created by Jasmine who quilts at Quilt Kisses.

Sometimes Our Body Makes Us Take a Break...

Click here to find my GYB/Give-Away post.

Every now and then I like to write what I label as my "Life and Learning" posts.
Flowers from my "work son".
I've actually been a little worried about my lack of sewing mojo this past month. I have found myself  not wanting to do anything. This lack of motivation begun to worry me especially as I just couldn't shake this "stomach virus" I had. Well come to find out, what was first thought to be a stomach virus ended up being a gallblader attack! Now, two very painful weeks later  (and six pounds lighter...well THAT's a bonus!) I had surgery this past Friday to FINALLY remove the darn thing!  YAH !!

So as I begin to awake and finally remove all my hospital "bracelets" and surgery is behind me, I 'm getting myself "set up" in my studio for the week of recovery ahead of me.  I accept it's time to take a break. (I don't really have a choice do I! LOL!) But life has taught me to make the best of it.
And you know Jackson will be right by my side!
No one likes being sick. Pain and illness makes us weak and unmotivated. Yet, it also makes me empathetic. It reminds me why so many of us enjoy donating quilts. My youngest daughter asked me once: "Don't you ever get tired of making quilts? I mean how many can you make till you get bored?" The answers: Never and a Million as quilting and creating keep me sane! Do you ever feel the same way?

Even while I'm sick, I'm looking forward to creating some "made-fabric". It won't require any standing and involves minimal cutting. It will be fun! Later in the week I hope to finish my ABC quilt and will also enjoy some handstitching and reading.  I've also let myself get lost in the world of Pinterest for awhile and found these fun Valentine mug rugs .
How to make a mixed media Valentine Postcards

Andddd....totally random I know, but I'm totally doing this the next time it snows!

Here's a shortcut to my Hearts Board if ya want to take a peek at what else I found!

Finally, I want to make Valentines for my Second Graders while I'm home recovering and found this at Plucky Momo's Blog. (She has free printables for the tags too.)Thought I'd share what I found in case you have little ones in your life, you might be inspired too:
I love the month of February.Valentine's Day is my very favorite holiday and the hubby and I celebrate our 26th Anniversay! As I find myself  on the mend, I'll close for now by sending healthy wishes & smiles to you all.

Scrappy Bath Rug Tutorial

Click here to find my GYB/Give-Away post.

I like to use cloth bath rugs with no rubber backs for easy cleaning. Yet, I've begun to notice our bathroom rug downstairs needed replacement or renewal!  (And quick!) Well wayyyy back to when I was a young mom, with no extra money to buy decorative things for the house, I remember using old fabric scraps to rejuvinate old, worn bath and kitchen rugs. I decided immediately that this old rug was not going to be replaced, but renewed!
In about two hours time you can turn a bundle of fabric strips into a new rug!
Yep, First, start with a bundle of fabric strips in the colors you want.
(My strips ranged from 1 1/2" to 3" in width...a variety of sizes is fine.)

Cut the strips into 4" to 5" pieces. (Again, you don't have to be exact.)

Then, line them up in a row on one edge of the rug (about 1/2" in from the edge). Start sewing your pieces down. Make sure your pieces slightly overlap. (See arrows below)
 Next,

Start the next row about 2 inches to the left of the previous row:

As you continue to sew new rows, just keeping flipping those previous rows over
and remember to over lap your scraps, just a bit...

Half way done and already looking better! I'm getting excited!!

Bye! Bye! Old bleach stains...

...and hello rejuvinated bathrug! Best thing is, it's soft and cozy under wet feet and
still easy to wash!
It's a Win! Win! for sure.
Do let me know if you ever decide to make yourself one, as I'd love to see it if you do!
Please feel free to link back to my tutorial and spread a little bathroom DIY love!
With smiles,
Val:)

Today's theme is Mystery Quilts.

While researching today's topic I began to realize that a mystery quilt might be an antique quilt with an unknown block or patter. Or, perhaps the mystery might be a quilt about which the family history is unknown. (I'm actually reading about one of those types in the Runaway Quilt novel right now!) But I think to many online quilter's a mystery quilt is the fun way to make a quilt and keep the final look a "mystery" until the final steps of assembly.  Now admittably, I have never participated in making a mystery quilt. It makes me anxious to not know what I'm making! LOL!! But here are a couple of  Mystery Quilts made by fellow blogging friends that just may change my mind!

This one is made by Carole who blogs at From My Carolina Home. It's from a QAL she participated in back in May. You can check out her quilt right here.
(I really love her quilting pattern on this too!)

And this one is made my Sharon who blogs at VROOMANS Quilts. This was A Super Bowl Sunday Mystery Sharon participated in last year. You can check out her post right here.
She also shared this with me from her LQS: a free pattern page with past mysteries. http://quiltbug.com/free/default.htm She said they should be having another Super Bowl Sunday Mystery this year. That would be fun! (Go SeaHawks!!!)
