Hello October!!

I awoke early and refreshed today!  Unusual...as ever since I started the school year, I have felt exhausted and unmotivated once my work day is through. (I mean I even missed my OWN linky party this past week!! I've been sleeping in "that" extra 20-30 minutes, thus eliminating my early morning blogging routine. I didn't even realize I didn't post the linky till the next day....THIS is not like me!)
Cease To Ask ~ Mary Engelbreit:
My  mom recently mentioned she missed my blog and this week my husband even ever so gently
told me I was crabby. LOL!!  And to more or less:

But how do you "Snap Out of IT??" Admittedly, I have been in that out-of-sorts mood all week. You know that one that finds you out of balance between play and work...frustrated with yourself, that you  aren't enjoying your hobby...finding yourself missing it yet, at the same time, you can't even imagine doing one more thing.  (I know, I'm so crazy sometimes!) With that said, my creative energy has not been misspent. I truly have the most wonderful group of second graders this year! They energize me, brighten my day, and we're off to a wonderful start together. But the school year has taken some time and energy to get a settled into...

...and as I sit here and type and inspire myself  by googling Mary Engelbreit images, I realize that just getting this school year started really has taken all the creative energy I have. As along with thirty wee ones, I'm also mentoring three new teachers, adjusting to a new teaching partner, new principal and vice-principal....oh and my IA just quit, so training a new IA next week. (Oh my gosh...no wonder I've been tired!) But! I'm not complaining...just reflecting out-loud I guess. (Thanks for "listening") Thankfully, there is something wonderful about turning the page on the calendar that helps me "Snap out of it"! For with October here I feel:

My school year is off to a wonderful start. And seriously, just the anticipation of enjoying the taste of pumpkin-spice lattes, the sounds of leaves crunching underfoot as Jackson and I walk, the feel of cozy sweaters and the sight of candles aglow around the house is helping me "Snap out of it!".

I just want to thank all of  you for your continuous support and patience of my little spot here is cyber space. I have many posts planned for October and am looking forward to catching up with all of your blogs and projects as well. Tuesday Archives has a Fall theme to it this month and France awarded me the One Lovely Blog Award...so I'm also looking forward to posting and passing on that honor as well. Happy Fall! Hello October!

  1. Oh, nothing like M.E. to shap you out of it - your work and colors remind me of M.E. You have a lot of 'new' to a school year start which sounds a little draining. Yes, the crispness of October just might be the snap you need..

  2. We were just talking at my department meeting about how despite being in school for six weeks, it does not feel like we have reached the groove. With so much going on at school, I totally understand why you have not been in the quilting mode. Take a baby step and work on something small, your mojo will come back just give it time and drink a pumpkin spice latte, cuddle with Jackson, drink some wine, put out some fall decorations, and RELAX!

  3. As a retired teacher I can totally relate. The first weeks of school are always tiring, and adding all those new people to work with takes it up several more notches. I also think its a shame that schools can't provide more teachers - 30 is just too many in one class for that age. Hang in there, Val. We're all rooting for you!

  4. A teacher always has that summer adjustment time with the start of a new school year. I hope the fresh month will carve a smoother groove for you.

  5. That is a lot of adjusting, you'll get there. What about some new small thing to work on? Maybe a bit of handwork that you can pick up for just a few minutes at some point and it won't matter if you don't do much at a time? Sometimes, small and slightly different steps help me feel accomplishment and soon I'm ready to roll again. Good luck!

  7. Hi Val!
Sometimes a change is as good as a rest, but in this case, NOT! What a start to the school year! Amazing what you are dealing with, juggling in the day to day as life goes on!
It's wonderful what you do! Teaching, sharing, caing for the future generations!
and all what you give to blogland! Thanks for being part of it!

  9. Love Mary Engelbreit illustrations. I'm not at all surprised you are a little off; you have a lot on your plate. Isn't your school blessed to have a teacher and mentor such as you, lovely Val! Those 30 or so 2nd graders are going to have the best year with you as their teacher. I can just see how their little minds will expand and discover new things.....not to mention the fun......with you as their guide. Have the most wonderful week!

  10. Great post, we all have those times where there is just too much going on at once. Take some sewing time for yourself! Give Jackson a tummy rub and rejoice that petting a dog makes our blood pressure go down. Cami needs an ear scratch too.

  13. September seems to have brought you many "new situations" to adjust to. I would have felt that way too. 😟 I admire your dedication as a teacher. 👏 I wish you a great October! 🍁
