My June ALYoF is a WIP

Yep! Too much going on right now that when I do get a moment, I'm too exhausted to sew even the simplest 6 inch squares together. My June ALYofF is my most current WIP.
On that note, today is my last day of teaching summer school!!!!!!!!!! (oops...too many exclamation points?? LOL!) This pile of wonky stars will be turned into a flimsy soon enough. We're expecting triple digits temperatures (Which don't even hit till late afternnoon) but does make for great afternoon sewing in my cool basement studio.
Curious if  your sewing habits change with the seasons too??
With smiles,
Val:)

  2. I agree that I seem to be busier and not getting enough sewing time lately. But you wonky stars look like they will be so much fun so definitely worth the wait!

  4. Nice polka dots! Is there only the one with white dots? I usually get less sewing time in the summer, but with it almost reaching triple digits around here recently I may need to join my husband in the AC and quilt. :)

  5. I love any excuse to quilt! Triple digit heat would drive me downstairs for sure. Luckily I have a sewing room downstairs too :)
Love your star blocks so far. Keep going.....I can't wait to see them all together!

  6. Happy for you that summer school is over I always found that so exhausting, more so than the regular school year. I get very little sewing done in the summer - my studio is upstairs, the hottest part of the house; so many outdoor chores and activities are calling my name; visitors galore; trips to and from family and friends; it's too damn hot 104* yesterday!

  8. My basement studio gets too cold when the AC is running. I am down there in wool socks with a sweatshirt. I guess you just do what you gotta do. :)

    1. Our basement gets cold to so what I did for Val was remove the "register" and cover the back of it with cardboard. Re install the register and your done. It also re-directs the air upstairs. Or, some registers have "louvers" on them that you can close. Our goal as husbands of a quilter is to keep them happy......Hope that helps

  9. Hurray for the end of summer school! I'm a teacher too but have sworn off summer school for the last 10 years--too much quilting to do! And you can never have enough exclamation points when you have a vacation from school! Enjoy your well-deserved break. Love your wonky star--it is so fun!

  10. Yesssss!!!! schools out. Let the summer activities begin.
I live in CA. We are on triple digits for a while now... 107 even! So yes the blinds get closed, but we have no basements here. (Lucky you.)

  11. School's out for the summer - go, you! We are 91 over here in the mountains today. Definitely hot enough for me. The only thing I do differently in regards to sewing in summer is to avoid hand stitching binding on a large quilt - way too hot to have the quilt sit in my lap, lol!

  12. I think my sewing habits change with the seasons, but even more so with how well my sewing machine is working :)

It's funny hearing that your temperature will be in triple digits, because in Australia we use Celcius and 100 degrees is the boiling point of water :) Enjoy your cool basement.

  13. Ooooo...this new flimsy will be so cute. Love, love the colors. My sewing rm is the hottest rm in the house. I simply must finish sewing earlier then in the cooler months.

  14. I love that green dog print fabric very cute. This should be an awesome quilt! I definitely hibernate in my sewing room more in winter but the rest of the year I try to keep a balance between quilting, physical activity and thrift shipping for Pyrex etc.

  16. The dots are great, I agree. Your flimsy will be spectacular. I know what end of summer school is like (and you can use as many exclamation marks as you would like). My sewing changes in the summer, too. I do more things out of the house (not necessarily outside). But this month am looking at organizing my sewing area more for a real Fall sewing season.

  17. Your top block looks adorable with that cute puppy fabric. I'm sorry about your hot weather. We expect the temp to be 54 this afternoon, which is also a good temp to keep me inside sewing. The Summer weather does change my sewing habits because if it's sunny, I'm outside. Sun is pretty rare in the Tongass Rain Forest;(
